This was very well written. I liked the connections between the scenes from the first DA and the second. It makes for a very interesting writing style. As you said there's much about the events in DH that we don't know and these characters, being so secondary, leave a lot of room for interpretation, however, this isn't the Michael that lives in my head. The story has internal coherency but because of the way I've built Michael in my head I have trouble accepting he would do something like this. This, of course, isn't anything against your writing, which was beautiful, but has more to do with how I see the character and situations that bother me ( ... )

While I have some very strongly formed ideas of Terry and Michael, I thought this was an exceptional piece that shows an alternative side to the boys. What I have always loved about the houses is that they bend one way or the other depending on factors beyond the house to which they belong, and I love that you turned Michael into a devil's advocate of sorts.

Plenty of what he said logically made sense, and I was able to understand the rationale behind why he would do something like that, and even better, you were able to pull him towards a redemptive path. Sometimes not even the smartest kids in class will know what the right thing to do is, unless they fail and learn the hard way first.

And speaking of, I positively loved the way you tied everything together-- that this is the story behind both Michael's rescue of that first year AND how Neville/Ginny/Luna got caught trying to steal the sword is a very clever detail that ties up JKR's plot quite nicely. Not to mention, I thought the narrative-- where usually I find it difficult to ( ... )

Like everyone else, I'm totally digging the characterization of Michael here. I can definitely see canonical evidence for that. It's nice to see a member of the student body who isn't so sure of where they should stand. Nice job!

Oh wow I really really like this.

Someone recced this to me and I'm glad they did.

I'm not usually interested in the minor characters of HP because most of the time they are turned into Gary Stu characters, but yours were real and believable. I could totally see why Michael would want to turn in his friends to protect the ones closest to him... and once he sees the consequences completely changing how he thinks. He realized that they really could make a difference and needed to, no matter what the cost to him.

Great story, I really enjoyed it! :)

Amazing.

Absolute perfection.

taking an action that seems inexcusable and laying the backstory so well it makes it understandable if not excusable.

a truly nuanced portrayal instead of just an arch one dimensional villain.
