Who returned to 600 comment alerts in her inbox? I DID, I DID!

So mostly, I dealt with trial news today. For those of you who wanted more context for JKR's testimony, the Leaky Cauldron has about as thorough a writeup as you can get without recording devices, although Melissa has had to recuse herself as of today because one of her emails got used ( Read more... )

wtf, lexicongate, new york, sister girl

I spent the entire day stalking FW. I feel bad for being so lazy, but at the same time it was totally satisfying. Two of those anonymous comments you included in the update? Were me. So was Y ALOHA THAR. xD

But then some rude mousie ruined all the anon fun, so now I have a JF account. I suspect this will just enable me to waste more time there.

Heeee. And yeah, Rude Mousie pissed me off. Well, they weren't rude per se--people just seem to think that they should go around mentioning unrelated personal elements even after everyone's asked them not to. I've been really impressed with the amount of self-policing from the other FWers, though.

Oh, is that what it was? All I saw was snacky's mod post saying "Hey, way to go doofus!", everything else was screened by the time I spotted it.

Yeah, no need to go crossing the line into people's personal lives. That's no different from all the dicks who came out with the "She put the books before her KIDS?! GOD, what a crappy mother!!" comments after Jo's testimony.

Yeah, it was yet another comment about his girlfriend, except this time it gave her real name as well. It's still not as bad as the anonycomment we had last December on a Lexiconwank entry--Some Girl had a friend who was taking Some Girl to a Christmas party where Girlfriend would be, and Some Girl was gleefully detailing her plans to us about how she was going to go accost Girlfriend and mention FW and everything. More real-name dropping there as well.

Oh, and I meant to tell you that if you want to sell some stuff, you ought to make t-shirts or something via Cafepress. Unless you already have a store. In which case, I really want a shirt that says "A revolution without Dance Dance Revolution is not worth having." /end

She has a store! And...I can't remember what it's called.

Wait...here it is: http://www.cafepress.com/m15mcharity

The stuff there now is for charity, though, not for her own $$$

...I would love that on a shirt. HEE.

Isn't DDR trademarked, though? I don't think I could use a quote containing it.

I'd have to look into this question more if you actually wanted to consider using it, but at least regarding trademark infringement, if you're not using it to describe a product and if there's no likelihood of confusion, I *think* you could actually use it (perhaps with the "TM" symbol just in case) without trademark infringement. Because, see, trademark law protects against someone else using a mark that's been developed to distinguish one product in order to sell or promote another, unrelated product. Essentially protects a company or person from others trying to cash in on their trademark in order to sell something or similar. But again, I would have to review some law stuff first, since I haven't done trademark study in about 2 years. :) And it might raise other issues.

I have to say (since anon is off now over there) how much I appreciate your coverage of the trial. At work all I can manage is the WSJ Law blog and it's so annoyingly filled with people who don't really seem to get it! Then I come home and read fandom wank and suddenly there is sanity again (bet you never thought you'd read that sentence without sarcasm tags).

My gang and I will be at NYCC all weekend. I'd tell Sister Girl and BF to say hi if she sees us, but... we'd probably scare her off.

We have tickets to the Neil Gaiman reading, WOOOOOHOOOO. Sadly we are not meeting him, because that costs $500 a pop.

I'm going to NYCC and attending the reading too, but isn't it possible that fans might accidentally run into him before the event? I've never been to a con before, so I don't know what the exact protocol is or if it allows guest speakers to wander around at all, but from stuff he said on his blog last summer for the San Francisco Comic Con it sounded like he would sign things for fans if they happened to spot him wandering around the con when he wasn't running to be on time for something. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking on my part that he would do it again. :/

Possibly, that'd be nice-- we'll be there all weekend, I don't know how long Neil will, but if we ran into him it'd be wonderful. Mostly I go to conventions to socialize, so I've seen "celebs" wandering around but really never approached them.

It's our dream-- my husband and I, that is-- to have Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett sign our copy of Good Omens. It was one of the first things we bonded over when we met, our love of that book. Since we're going to the North American Discworld Con in '09, maybe we can make it happen. *fingers crossed*

I was lucky enough to get Terry Pratchett's signature on my first copy of Good Omens when he made an appearance in New York to promote the release of Thud!. I really hope I get the chance to have Neil sign it too.

Speaking of autographs, did you know that the newer copies of GO contain an introduction in which Terry and Neil share amusing anecdotes about some of the more interesting copies of GO that they have signed? Apparently, someone once brought a copy that had so completely fallen apart that they had to carry it in a plastic bag, and another kept theirs on a bed of velvet in an ornate wooden box. :D
