Okay, so... it's been a while. I'm not sure why I haven't updated in a few days; I feel like I've been busy, but I'm not sure doing what. ( Well... )

cooking, harry potter, tribulations, animals, tv, veronica mars, art, movies, family, dental work (sigh), sister girl, my mother, music, pride and prejudice, my grandmother, hilarity

Is that sourdough like those friendship cakes, where it's like all part of the one cake that's been going around for years? Perhaps the sourdough first began in the fifteen hundreds in some germanic country and has been growing unabated since then.

Or perhaps not.

But I still like the idea.

It may very well be the same theory, because I know she brought home "Sebastian" one night, but I looked at the container today and it said "Sebastian II."

Friendship cakes? I've heard of friendship quilts where everyone makes a patch (or whatever the term is), but cakes that go around for years...that's kinda gross. Wouldn't it get hard to tell the purple frosting from the penicillin after a few months?

I've made this friendship bread before. In fact, the recipe I got called it Amish friendship bread (which is just a weird coincidence, given that you mentioned the amish jokes).

It's not really a cake you pass around, it's like the sourdough starter, but it's batter for a bread/cake.

Basically someone gives you a container of the batter and then you feed it sugar and other ingredients every few days. And as you do it, it expands. And so when you're done you divide the batter in 3 or 4. You bake one into a bread/cake, and then you have one or two to give to someone else and you have another "starter" for yourself to start the process over.

The bread is actually VERY good. Lots of cinammon and sugar. Good with coffee/tea.

There are now 4 new episodes of Veronica Mars left, for all that are interested. The previouslies were longer than Lost's once, so you don't have to be worried about not being caught up!

Hug your sister for us. That wisdom teeth shit sounds bad. And I am so jealous of your nice hygenist. The one we had in Atlanta was awful. She broke one of my mom's teeth she was so intense.

Wow, those maps of religion are fascinating. It's interesting to compare the Catholic distribution,

to the 2004 election results,

Do Catholics really tend to vote blue, or is that a coincidence?

It does seem like Catholics tend to vote blue, but that might have more to do with the fact that Catholics are concentrated in the Northeast, which votes blue overall.

I know Republicans have made a lot of inroads with Catholics with the gay marriage & prayer in school thing, but now they lost a lot of that capital with the anti-immigration bills, which would penalize priests & churches that help illegal immigrants. Pretty stupid of them, really.

BTW, I heart your icon. ;)

I had the same sideways teeth problem, but they said they'd have to break my jaw to get them out so I said fucks to that.

I had 3 impacted wisdom teeth, one of which ended up in my sinuses by the end of the surgery (and there it remains). But that's starting to sound comfortable compared to what some of ya'll have gone through o_O

I believe the correct term is sourdough "starter." I took a sourdough cooking class over the summer, which certainly doesn't make me an expert, but I learned a few things. There are various strains of sourdough, and mine is from the woman who owns the cooking store and she's had hers for 30 years. It's okay to leave mine in the fridge for up to two months without feeding it, but I generally make bread every other weekend. In fact, I haven't bought a loaf of bread since last summer when I took the class! I'm also quite partial to sourdough/whole wheat waffles, which are far less time consuming than the bread. I hope you enjoy all the bread!

P.S. I totally have to name my sourdough starter now... But what could be as good as Sebastian? Hmmm...
