oh girrrrrrrrrrl, those hurt/comfort fics have been around long before that omg.

i don't want to even know how to snap someone else's neck and i'm gonna say lecter made it look easy because it's lecter and he probably secretly bench presses a direstag or two.

speaking of, lololol at the twitter/tumblr/social media in general around this show. LOVING IT.

Heh. I didn't say it invented it; just that a fresh one broke out. Because, for real.

i don't want to even know how to snap someone else's neck

What I really want to know is how you PRETEND snap someone's neck without actually killing them.

I'm trying not to get too sucked into the Tumblr vortex just because there's only so many hours in a day, but the show people themselves are all up in it, aren't they? A+ for understanding of modern media.

Oh, I meant the Lecter/Will! I was amazed (though I shouldn't be) at how quickly the fanfic broke out for a show that hasn't been out that long, but I forget how old the characters actually are (and how PERFECT they are for fanfic).

YES, like in stunts and stuff -- how do you not hurt each other and make it still look real? I'm so fascinated by that.

Right?? The Winston/Direstag and RTs, hashtags etc!! So great.

Heh. Yeah, I knew that the show fandom had taken off super, super quickly--but there's a pretty deep foundation there. I am expecting ship battles between the old fans and the new fans.

(I still have NO IDEA who the Dire Ravenstag twitter is. Or Winston the dog. Or pretty much anyone. I'm not saying I need to know, just that it's delightful.)

Yes! And this episode particularly.

I think it's possible, but not likely just yet - Will seems to totally be on board, and even taking guilt on himself for what happened. Jack senses something is weird, but I don't think he's actually eyeballing Hannibal for the weirdness.

I suppose it depends on if them twigging to Hannibal happens at the end of this season or the next.

Your description of killer vs. killer is absolute perfection; including the rallying cry of 'Cannibals Ho!'

Being from Baltimore, I was also thrown by the "Baltimore is a small town" statement.

But it did make me wonder how Hannibal would have reacted when we rioted in the streets after Superbowl XLVII.

A full fridge and chill chest, with several lavish dinner parties to follow, and a wide selection of potential meat stock for the future. :D

He would then take up the vuvuzela, I presume? Capable of achieving any pitch within its range, even those which rupture the human eardrum.

i think when hannibal sent will after tobias, the goal was friendship thunderdome. whoever survives may apply for my friendship. i do think he was pulling for will though. :)

i think bedelia killed her patient in self-defense, so she too is a killer. i think hannibal has veiled his serial killing under a "i killed a patient by not saving him" euphemism, and they talk about how tough it is to be horrible killers that way.

I LOVE THIS SHOW.

For Will's part in it, it was definitely a test. Not for Tobias though because Hannibal was so many kinds of not happy when he thought Tobias had succeeded in killing Will. I'm just not sure I see any scenario where Tobias got to live - especially after having potentially killed the one friend Hannibal had decided to pursue. He'd already stated to Bedelia that he didn't want to be friends with Tobias.

I think in this regard there was a little too much like involved to call to like. Hannibal definitely has the personality that does not lend itself to befriending those just like him. There's only one room for one alpha psychopath, and he's it.

in the books it was implied a few times that hannibal liked to encourage budding killers, both in his psychiatric practice and by correspondence after he was arrested. and lord knows he's capricious enough to not follow his own rules, when it suits him ( ... )

Re: sending Will after Tobias: WTF HANNIBAL?

Those...were my exact words when I saw that. WTF Hannibal! So I totally get you on that one. I think the general consensus is that Hannibal was straight up testing Will. He didn't want him dead, I truly believe that, but he wanted to see if he was clever enough to still be fully in the friend category (and potentially hoping - given his track record - that he'd just go ahead and take care of that little problem for him, so that Hannibal didn't have to dirty his hands. If you think of Will's history with killers, it's very likely he would have killed him dead since Hannibal knew Tobias' intent was to kill.

I honestly think on some level Hannibal was /still/ underestimating just how much of a threat Tobias could be as well.

Poor Will, every single relationship we've seen illustrated for him on this show is so, so very bad for him. Jack, Alana, Abigail and Hannibal. All of them are no good for his mental state in one way or another. If he'd actually make friends with Beverly, he'd ( ... )

It's funny and sad that Hannibal has these "requirements" for people to be his friend. You're doing it wrong, dude! True friends aren't conditional. Even if they make a mistake, they're still your friend. That's kind of the definition. Or, you get the sense that they are a kindred spirit without putting them through life-or-death trials.

Of course, if I said this to him, he would eat me.

It's hard for me to imagine Hannibal miscalculating anything, especially with Tobias being so magnificently menacing, but I agree with you there.

I love Will's interactions with Beverly! He needs more of those. It's funny how he shies away from her straightforward, unvarnished brand of companionship, and gravitates towards the terrible ones. Maybe Hannibal's "you're attracted to psychopaths" assessment of Franklyn applies to Will, as well.

I also ( ... )

To be fair: I'm not sure that even the most brilliant psychiatrist would have guessed that Fancy Cello Teacher was going to bust out a steel garrote-whip and kickfighting moves. The one murder of his that Lecter knew anything about involved a lot of time-consuming "craftsmanship," and he didn't know about the fight in the basement yet.

I love Will's interactions with Beverly! He needs more of those.

I love Beverly so much. moar Beverly and Beverly's knee boots pls.

Part of my reaction was the fact that it's the most emotion or weakness, period, from Hannibal that we've seen.Yeah--vulnerability, which is not normally what you get from him. If you want to beat the control/connection drum again, you could say that he tried to control his connection with Will--here, prove yourself to me--and realized that maaaybe he shouldn't have done that. And it was that moment when he didn't have ( ... )
