No Time Like The Present

Or maybe just…no time.

Who shortened the day?  I’m pretty certain there are two fewer hours in a day.  I’d really love to get those back and preferably while I’m awake so that I can use them constructively.  I fantasize about the time I’d spend on writing if I had the two missing hours.  I’ve taken to carrying my laptop with me everywhere I go and ( Read more... )

I'm a morning person and it has taken me years to train my brain to function into the evening. Now it seems I can't turn it off.

I'm going to be blogging about the juggling act next week! I know what you mean about those missing houra, and I completely admire you for getting in writing time at work. I never did manage that when I was working out of the house--good for you!

Becky, I'll keep my eyes open for that post. You made me feel so good by saying you 'admire' me getting in writing time. Thanks!

I write when my kids are in school ... but I also sneak times in the morning and evening and weekends. There just never seems to be enough time to write, but I have to be careful to keep it in balance with the other loves of my life.

Susan, what do you do during summer break? Do the kids respect that you need some time to write?

Summers are a challenge. Last summer (which was my first one writing), I was able to get a few hours in each day - probably half my normal productivity. My three boys love playing with each other, so they are good about occupying themselves. But the constant interruptions and midday excursions to the pool, camps, etc. do cut into the quiet, extended times I need for rough drafting. It's more amenable to editing, really, so I'm going to try to concentrate on that over the summer, save my drafting for the school year, or the bits of time I can steal in the evening ( ... )

Good luck with your plan to edit this summer. I applaud you for keeping the focus where it belongs, on the family. I think we are stronger writers if we live our lives first and write about it second.
