Nice To Meet You Anyway

I quit Genesis. I quit Genesis because I was spit on. I did not quit Genesis when I was bitten so badly that I needed to be administered a tetanus shot and had a visible bruise for five months. I did not quit Genesis when I had to accompany teenagers into the bathroom to help them. I did not quit Genesis when I was kicked, hit, scratched, elbowed, ( Read more... )

I know it's hard to leave behind people and situations that meant so much to you. But think about it this way - your time there changed you as a person, and you formed bonds with these kids that you love, and you got Steve out of the deal. Everything happens for a reason, and maybe Genesis was meant to show you that you can do things that most others couldn't (I know I could never do that job and love it half as much as you did), and it gave you insight and thankfulness for what you have, and you met someone you truly love. Don't worry, you won't be at the Surge forever, and at least you still have your home programs. Somebody might have filled the position that you left behind, but I doubt that she's really replacing you. Everyone will remember you for the great person you are and the talent you had with these kids. That says a lot. It's hard to leave things behind, but sometimes you have to just to get to that next step.

Thank you for the response, I got a little teary. You're totally right; Genesis prepared me for challenges I might face in the future within a career. I guess I'm still on the path of doing what is right over what is easy. Easy would have been to stay there and just go through the motions even if I didn't believe in them.

Now I just need a plan to break out of the Surge...

Spit is nasty. I don't blame you for quiting because of that, everyone has their limit. Genesis was the best thing that happened to you. You are like a new, improved Katie because of that place. At least when people spit at me at work, I get to hit them, hard. I love my job :-)
