Writercon musings and song prompts

Jul 18, 2009 18:59

I realized it's been some time since I last posted and wanted to pop in for a quick update. WriterCon is fast approaching and I've been feeling rather antsy about fic because of it. The last few months, I've been a writer that hasn't wrtten anything. A bit disconcerting given the name and nature of the con. I have a number of unfinished fics, some ( Read more... )

Congrats on the awards!

And yeah, I feel you on the "writer who doesn't write" thing. I'm not going to the con, but I've often wondered if I even ought to call myself a writer anymore, given how infrequently I do it. I just made an attempt to go back and finish at least one of the bajillion ideas I have in my WIP folder, but I did one chapter and I'm ready to give up again.

I think I'm working the last party of the cocktail party. But I'll be there earlier, looking for friendly faces. :)

Are you part of a panel or something? I forget that people actually have responsibilities.

Congrats on the awards. This might be a bit of a detour from your request, but this month over at still_grrr the weekly prompts are based on different types of music. It can be a good place to try little things. I highly recommend it.

I'll see you at Writercon! I think we'll be able to knock out some good stuff at Dirty Drabbles Night, don't you?

I'm very sparingly on LJ, so I don't have much time to check out comms, but thanks for the rec. I don't see myself writing anything at this point, but I'll have a look at still_grrr. Maybe I can jot something down on the plane ride.

Hee! I hadn't thought of Dirty Drabbles night. I'm pretty miserable when it comes to staying at 100 words, but if it's a 500 word or under thing I can definately rock it. BTW - I think the whole thing is really homoerotic, as most of fanfic is. All these women sitting around in a room trying to come up with a hot 100 words for the entertainment of their lady friends? Hm... *wink*

Mad World, particularly the chorus, always makes me think of Buffy after she comes back in season 6:

"And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had."

I looooove Mad World. Both versions, or all three if we're including Adam Lambert. It's a very haunting, beautiful song, and definately applies to Buffy's resurrection year. I might be able to work with that. Thank you!

I can see Buffy having nightmares about being in the coffin, which is often used in fics, but I can also see her having very not-nightmare dreams about dying, especially in the beginning of the season. Dying was how she got to heaven.

Oh, I love that song. Like, a whole hell of a lot. It was really moving when she did it live in concert a few years ago and the whole audience was singing it. I'll think on this. Thanks for the suggestion!
