“Feel good?” Aragorn asked, kneading strong fingers into Frodo’s ankles, the top of his hairy foot and his heel.
Frodo nodded, smiling, but not opening his eyes. “Um.” He lay flat on his back on their bed, and Aragorn sat cross-legged at his feet.
Aragorn spoke again, and this time his voice was stern. “You should not have been on your feet for so long.”
“I know,” Frodo murmured. He felt too content to argue that a day shopping in the market for spun wool so that one of the maids of the Citadel could knit a blanket for the baby had been necessary.
He had just slipped into a doze when something fluttered inside his belly, like a sudden swarm of moths. His eyes flew open and he clutched his belly, breathing hard. Aragorn looked up in concern.
“Frodo?”
“He moved…I felt him move!” Frodo grabbed Aragorn’s hand and pulled it to his rounded belly. Aragorn’s hand was warm and dry, and he waited, breath held. Then the baby moved again. Frodo met Aragorn’s gaze, and they laughed, linking hands until Aragorn muffled Frodo’s laughter with a kiss.
