Wow. Whoever this Time Lord is, he seems to be present solely for the purpose of smug mockery towards Three.
Ooh yes, he definitely is. Of course, if we think of this scene on a meta level, he might be there to taunt Three because Two kicked his ass in the past (because the actor also played Solicitor Grey in The Highlanders). Also, in my head canon, the bowler hat is his TARDIS. Don't ask me how that works, just go with it. :P

Aaaaaand UNIT HQ is conveniently next to a bay into which Three can throw the bomb. Well. That was handy. Hi, seagulls.
UNIT HQ changes location according to plot.

An unfortunate pitfall of Classic Who: at the right angle, you can very clearly see that the TARDIS prop is completely empty.
If we consider that Three removed the console from inside the TARDIS in his previous televised adventure (i.e., Inferno) and that, if we're to believe The Time Meddler it's the console that defines the interior of the TARDIS and its contents, it kind of makes sense if it looks empty in this particular serial.

Did Yates just ( ... )

In a weird way, I can actually see the bowler-hat-TARDIS idea kinda making a strange sort of sense.

Your console theory begs the question of how exactly one would go about putting the console back in the TARDIS. I imagine you'd probably have to disassemble it and reassemble it (which sounds massively tedious, especially considering his later efforts to take the console apart to try and fix it), but I still have this bizarre image in my head of Three rolling the console through the doors on its side in one piece.

I can actually get behind Jo/Yates. It is still pretty adorable, despite knowing where they both end up (although whether Yates would be able to get 7 kids out of her still seems unlikely. I still don't know how Cliff Jones did it.)

Michael Wisher and Terry Molloy were the two Davros' to appear out of costume in non-Dalek stories, right? Or was that also Michael Wisher in Attack of the Cybermen? (I haven't watched that yet, but I seem to remember it had an out-of-character Davros actor in it.)

During the Troughton era, 1960s radio comedy show I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again (starring John Cleese, Jo Kendall, who would later play Frazer's sister in Emmerdale, and the Goodies) had a recurring Doctor Who parody serial called "Professor Prune and the Electric Time Trousers", a concept so bizarre that makes the bowler hat make a whole lot more sense. :P Curiously, I seem to remember Professor Prune having a thing with Queen Elizabeth I...

It was Terry Molloy in Attack of the Cybermen, yes. As for Michael Wisher, he was also in Ambassadors of Death, Carnival of Monsters, Revenge of the Cybermen and Planet of Evil, and voiced the Daleks in three Pertwee stories.

"...this area is strictly out of bounds to everybody except the tea lady and the Brigadier's personal staff?"
"I'm your new assistant!"

My favorite bit is Three's line right after. "Oh no!". LOL. Tactful. I think she's the only companion other than Leela who he outright said he didn't want as a companion (but they came along for the ride anyway coz they awesome).

I think the Master's TARDIS just materialized as...a...dude...with...a cane...in mid-air...what.

Maybe this is where Romana's statement in City of Death about Time Lords being able to fly, but prefer not to as it would be too ostentatious, comes from. XD

I really hope Jo gets out of that hypnosis soon, because this really isn't a good way to introduce a new companion.

It actually has a bit of Fridge Brilliance to it but doesn't become clear till you get to Delgado!Master's final serial. Won't give away spoilers but basically it shows how much stronger she's become when she pwns him in a way only Jo could do. Character development ftw. ^_^

Technically, Four also rejected everyone in pre-Team-Fivey in Logopolis when he does his "I never choose my own company" rant. But yeah, it's a lot more direct and meaningful here ( ... )

Ah, yes. Which is true for the most part; though I swear he is the one who invited Vicki and Dodo into the TARDIS. And, ironically, tried to swoon Jo into being a proper travelling companion with that whole "I'm offering you all the time in the world." speech (but he didn't have a high enough persuasion level :P ( ... )

That trailer was actually how I became aware of that song. I even thought of the game when he started singing it.

....that 'soft' entrance by totally mind dominating the circus guy, didn't he?

I always felt that Time Lord Exposition Guy was giving Three a taste of his own medicine. Though, you thinking he was the Master's TARDIS was pretty funny.

Yeah, old Who relies on story more than FX. I don't mind, but then I grew up with it. You watch, 20 years from now kids will say the RTD and Moffat eras effects look "hokey" and "dated". Ha. :P

All of that said, this story *does* feel a bit like it was using the same basic formula as the 60s Batman tv show... -Arcalian

I really did think that Time Lord Exposition Guy was the Master's TARDIS at first (hey, weirder things've happened in this show), mainly based on the principal that TARDISes have been shown to materialize in midair from time to time. But yeah.

Considering some of the CGI in New Who is deliberately dated-looking, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it one day develops the same retro-charm that Classic Who has today. Actually, I'll be more surprised if it doesn't. I think it's kind of inevitable, really.

Speaking of 60's Batman: I once show a friend of mine a fanvid that used footage of the UNIT era as a A-Team parody and his reaction was "why does this look like it was filmed in the 1970's?" :/

This gives me fridge horror every time I remember that this episode directly follows "Inferno"...

I'll bet that was the first use of the Master's TCE. I have to admit, it looked less phallic back in the '70s.

...well, it's the first use of the Master, so... but yeah, it was much less phallic.

"This plastic has got unique properties." Like MURRRRRDEEEEEERRRR.

Hee hee hee!

Racefail of the Day: The circus master has a black strongman do his dirty work. Wearing a leopard skin. Wow, guys.

Wow, it is Toberman! I never realized that before! And...yeah...

Wow. Whoever this Time Lord is, he seems to be present solely for the purpose of smug mockery towards Three.

Hahaha - he totally is!

Somehow, Tom carries that a lot better than Jon.I actually couldn't disagree more. Three's just a big baby, and the people around him call him on it when he gets too ridiculous...and ( ... )
