The Myth Makers

This is a recon structure I've never seen before. Instead of scrolling text, it shows up in blocks that take up the entire screen.

Also, this is a REALLY bizarre choice of music for a fight scene like Hector vs. FRIGGING ACHILLES.

Ah, HERE'S the scrolling text.

I think this is the first time an injury from the previous story has carried over into the next one, unless I'm mistaken.

("Thunder roars!") Umm...guys, we can HEAR that. You don't need to tell us. We already know.

So apparently in this version of events, Hector dies because he gets distracted by the Doctor's arrival. Uh oh.

ZEUS!DOCTOR! I'm actually picturing this right now. It's pretty awesome.

FOOTAGE! Recorded footage, anyway. Steven and Vicki in the TARDIS. I only JUST remembered that they aren't together as long as I thought.

I dunno, Steven and Vicki just stands out in my mind as One Of Those TARDIS Crews To Remember.

Holy crap the way the shadows fall on One's face in that "Zeus, there he stands" shot is TERRIFYING AS BALLS WHAT.

With mentions of "tales of Aphrodite" and "vulgar" back to back, that seems to be the biggest hint at sex talk I've heard in Classic Who.

Is it just me, or does Odysseus have an Evil Laugh? Because he certainly laughs a LOT.

MORE FOOTAGE!

Indignant Vicki is indignant.

("Menelaus, king of the Spartans...") Madness? THIS. IS. SPA-AGHGHADNOTTHEFACE

The banter between Agamemnon and Menelaus is putting a strangely humorous spin on those Greek Myth stories I used to listen to all the time.

One shall use his learnings to assert his Zeusiness! ONE used LEARNINGS! It's not very effective... #ohwowijustmadeapokemonreference

"But I must return to my tiiiiiiieeeeeee...my temple!"

One seems ready to use to TARDIS amazings to both save Steven and to "prove" to the Greeks that he's Zeus. Wonder what he'll do...

...unless the TARDIS mysteriously vanishes (AGAIN) first.

So the TARDIS has been dragged off to Troy. I wonder how aware Vicki is of the situation.

Cassandra! Yay, we get the crazy prophet character!

"Can't you see that you were MEANT to bring it into Troy?" Uh oh, there goes our horse plan. But what if we built a giant wooden badger...

FOOTAGE! Vicki in the TARDIS! Steven finishing an explanation!

"I give you two days to think of something REALLY ingenious!" ...please tell me this means the Doctor is going to devise the Trojan Horse.

Uh oh, TARDIS-burning. I wonder how early it was established that it was basically indestructible?

And Vicki emerges! I wonder what she'll get mistaken for...

"I'm nobody important, I'm just somebody from...the future." Now I wonder what she hopes this is going to achieve.

Wait a sec...Vicki and Cassandra arguing about the practice of prophecy...BECHDEL TEST PASSED!

"Now don't be frightened, child. You shall die when I say so and not a moment before."
"Well, that's a bit comforting."

And we hereby dub thee...Cressida. I wonder how good Vicki's Shakespeare is...

Is it just me, or is Paris trying to flirt with Vicki?

One seems quite dismissive of the horse idea, but I'll be he'll go back to it, judging by the title of the last episode of the serial.

"Well tell me, have you thought about flying machines, mmm?" One, WHERE are you going with this?

"I am Diomedes, friend of Odysseus." Also you're Steven and have quite a gloriously preposterous helmet.

"That...Helen thing was just a misunderstanding." Paris, you don't even know how much win you just accumulated in my book.

I'm not quire sure if flattering your opponent is going to get you captured-not-killed, Steven. It might even get you freed-not-captured.

Wow, Paris is really getting a kick out of this, isn't he?

"You seem very fond of horses."
"Fond of them, I should think we are. We worship them. A Trojan would do anything for a horse."

And suddenly Vicki seems very interested in Troilus. I didn't even know they'd met yet.

Thank you, Paris! Just in the nick of time. Oh wait, Steven's presence is actually not the best thing right now...

For my 6,666th tweet, I would like to express my appreciation for Cassandra's EPIC growling of "HOOOW DAAAARE YOOOOOOU."

Huh. I didn't know they had paper airplanes in ancient Greece. Unless they didn't and the show is just messing with us.

One's solution for not inventing the Trojan Horse: catapulting giant paper airplanes with soldiers over the walls of Troy. This show.

Except instead of "soldiers," we mean "the Doctor."

So there's a sketchy mute guy called Cyclops running around with a 'stache and an eyepatch. Somehow, I suspect shenanigans.

Hello Troilus! Come to facilitate this cycle's Companion Departure Romance, have you?

HERE we go: is horse tiems nao.

Aww, Vicki and Troilus's playful banter has its own musical cue.

"Is this Diomede a particular friend of yours?"
"A very good friend, yes!"
"Well I don't see how you CAN be friends with a Greek!"
"Oh, look, Troilus: when you come from the future you makes friends with a lot of people and he's one of them!"
I'm gonna miss you, Vicki.

"I think I could get to be quite happy here in time." Yet you're one of the companions who gets revisited in the audios as a lonely woman...

(the first audio I ever listened to was her Companion Chronicle: Frostfire, before I'd seen any of her serials)

Ah. Turns out Cyclops didn't need a turns-out-to-be-a-spy subplot after all. I think he's going to die shortly.

YAY WE GET FOOTAGE OF THE HORSE!

Now I wonder why Babelcolour used the footage of Vicki coming out of the TARDIS and not this scene in his Every Doctor Who Story video...

Now I'm left to ponder in what context they just used the word "orgy." (no, seriously, they just used it)

I swear, if you pay too much attention to the shadows on peoples faces in the recons, they can start to look REALLY frigging scary.

AND WE GET FOOTAGE OF THEM MOVING THE HORSE!

"Katarina, go look for the sorceress." KATARINA! AT LAST! I've been waiting to meet you for a while, outside of that one Short Trips story.

Well, Steven's free, now all they have to do is wait and hide until the Doctor comes out of the horse...

("Meanwhile, the Greek fleet returns under cover of darkness.") Huh. That's pretty bright darkness.

"My name is Achilles."
"My brother's murderer!"
Troilus vs. Achilles: WHO SHALL WIN?

There's that bizarre choice of combat music again...

("Troilus calls on all his remaining strength and cuts down Achilles with a savage blow.") But I thought he was only vulnerable at the heel.

Oh wait...we're dealing with the "reality" version of the Trojan War, aren't we?

The soldiers are out, the gates are opened, AND SO BEGINS THE EPIC PWNING OF TROY.

("Steven is wounded horribly in the shoulder but manages to strike down the Trojan...") So THAT'S how Scribbles in Chalk starts.

("The Greeks have overrun the palace. King Priam and Paris have been killed.") But...but Paris was funny...

"Ten long years we fought you, Odysseus, and ten long years it'll be before you see your home again!" Oh, you foresee that Odyssey, girl.

(We were starting to read that in high school, but then our English teacher disappeared...)

Now we've got a TARDIS party of four, aaaaand TAKEOFF! But first, poor Troilus, his girl left him and now his city's on fire.

But wait, there's...VICKI! So she didn't get on board the TARDIS after all. I was wondering when that was going to happen...

"The main thing is, I belong here now, with you. If you'll have me." Awww...Completely Expected Romantic Happy Ending.

Uh oh, Steven's not looking in good shape at all. Aww, he only wants to know if Vicki's okay and where she is.

"I knew it was to come, that I was to die."
"My dear child, you're not dead!"
Ummmm...give it a few more episodes, it's not that far off.

FOOTAGE!
"And remember Katarina, you must call me 'Doctor'."
"Oh, as you wish, Doc."
"I am not a 'Doc'. I am not a god."

"Next Episode: The Nightmare Begins." Oh HELLS YEAH DALEKS' MASTER PLAN NEXT.

Shit's about to get real up in the hizzle. Until then, goodbye, Vicki. You were a great companion and it feels like we just met you but...

And Katarina, welcome aboard. It'll be a short trip, but I hope it's a good one.
