Galaxy 4

I almost love how obviously copied-from-a-VHS this is. And it looks like we've got the good reconners this time. OH HELLO PETER PURVES!

So apparently there's bare-minimal material from this serial, but Loose Cannon is really amazing. We may be in for a treat.

Wow. Peter's making no secret of the fact that this isn't his favorite story. Then again, he's being very good-natured about it.

Apparently because of the way the scripts were being written, Steven got a lot of dialogue intended for *Barbara*. Let's see how that goes.

It's always fascinating to see what particular scenes survive thanks to people recording their televisions screens.

"As a matter of fact, I think we shall get some long deserved AND deserved peace for once." No. No you won't. You NEVER WILL.

I can only assume that those exterior shots of the rover moving around are part of the Loose Cannon re-filming that Peter was talking about.

Awww, Vicki's already gotten attached to the little guy. "Chumbley," she seems to be calling it.

THAT is how you show power on this planet: you set rosebushes on fire.

There certainly are a lot of voices being jumbled together in this scene...

And suddenly, FOOTAGE! I wonder if this is the six-minute surviving clip I was just reading about.

"Oh, it's all this physical exercise..." Oh, it's all this redundant redundancy...

I wouldn't be surprised if one of those Drahvins turned out to be an android or something. She had a very distinctly robotic way of talking.

"Women?"
"Yes, erm, feminine, female!"
I kinda like how One gestures to her general ovarian area as opposed to...elsewhere higher up.

(Okay, to be fair, he IS sitting down. But still.)

Looks like my android theory wasn't that far off. They're organic, but they're artificially created beings.

Aaaaaand now we're back in recon territory. Oh well, the footage was nice while it lasted...

"Well, it's a very good thing I've got you around, young man, to tell me what I'm supposed to be doing."

And then there was a s'plosion!

Wow. So all the Chumblies need to do to set off repeat explosions is to touch the wires together repeatedly? Isn't that cheating?

I still don't quite grasp how the Drahvins are able to survive solely off leaves. Maybe their biology is just that different.

Steven, you're kind of win. Maaga, you're kind of a bitch.

"You may appear to be right, but it's dangerous, very risky!"
"There's no risk. I noticed, observed, concluded, and then I threw the rock."

For a second, I could've sworn I hear the cloister bell in the background...

Wait, is it just me, or is everything moving slightly faster all of a sudden?

"...Do you think it's a baby one?" BABY CHUMBLEY? BABY CHUMBLEY!

UNEXPECTED MONSTER.

Gee guys, thanks for holding that shot on the really quite creepy monster for so long.

"I do not understand why they would want to help a friend. We would not. We would leave him here." Poor emotionless drone-girls...

I've heard characters talk about friendship COUNTLESS times before but hearing it from people who honestly don't get it is way more powerful

I really wish I could see the footage of this particular scene, because I'm very curious as to what Maaga's facial expressions were here.

To clarify: she was just waxing poetic on the destruction of the planet and the death of the Rills. It was really creepy.

I really like the re-filmed inserts that Loose Cannon has been using. They blend in pretty seamlessly.

This is annoying: they don't seem to have the end of episode 3. I guess the cliffhanger was just Steven being left in a draining air lock?

Looks like I was right about the cliffhanger, because that's where this episode picks up.

Agh, the sound quality is making it unusually hard to tell the difference between the Rills talking and One talking.

Alrighty, time to boost a technobabbly build-to-climax with some prelude-to-awesome music. Trust me, it makes it easier.

And now we've finally reached the moral-dilemma part of the story and I'm still having trouble following it because of the sound quality.

Then again, ultimately I really shouldn't be complaining...

Awwww, poor Chumbley got slightly pwninated by a Drahvin with a stick.

And now we finally get the see an entire Rill. Yup, pretty gruesome, but I feel like I've seen worse.

And then there was a s'plosion, right on cue. What a punctual planet :)

"You know, I wish we could stop somewhere for a while and take stock of ourselves instead of being surrounded by dangers all the time!"

Also, are there any companions who DON'T screw up their ankle at some point? (There probably are, but it just seems to happen quite a bit.)

"Look at that planet. I wonder what's going on there."
"Yes, I wonder, hmm?"
I'll bet the people there are on a...

...MISSION TO THE UNKNOWN.

And with closing remarks, apparently The Myth Makers is one of Peter Purves' favorite stories. And we'll be saying goodbye to Vicki soon...

HOLY CRAP WE'LL BE SAYING GOODBYE TO VICKI SOON. But but but but...I...I like Vicki... ;__;
