“Seems now they’re planning on continuing the meeting all through tomorrow,” Kai muttered as the four sat around the table eating the evening meal. “For what purpose I do not know.”

“They just insist on torturing us,” Tala growled, stabbing at his meat with his fork. “These days they make it seem like a crime to be team captain, and therefore they must punish us.”

Bryan smirked. “Better watch yourselves, or they’ll run the meeting for the entire week.”

Ray picked up his cup and took a sip to hide his smile as the two shot the elder death glares that Bryan shrugged off as he continued to eat. For a while there was silence as the four picked at their meal, Ray once again forcing his food down and frowning inwardly as he spotted Bryan watching him out of the corner of his eye. Does he know I’m finding it hard to eat? Why doesn’t he say something?

Finishing first, Kai dropped his utensils onto the plate with a clatter before he stood, turning toward the doorway only to pause as Bryan casually called out after him.

“You’re on dishes duty,” Bryan informed him in an almost non-caring fashion. “Both you and the Wolf. Over the last couple of months you have been leaving all the housework to me and Ray, so now it’s time you started pulling your weight. Despite what you think, you are not god, which means you have to do your share.”

Kai scowled, crossing his arms over his chest. “And what if I say no?”

Bryan’s cold eyes levelled on him. “That’s a nice car you’ve got in the garage. Pity if bits starting disappearing off it.”

Kai’s gaze hardened. “You wouldn’t dare.”

“Try me.”

Kai growled, Ray instantly glad for Bryan’s sake that looks couldn’t kill. Nonetheless Kai stormed toward the sink, taking his plate and glass on the way passed and dumping them onto the stack Bryan had left for them and turning on the faucet, looking for the dishwashing detergent.

Ray smiled toward Bryan, who met his eye and smirked before standing and moving from the room. Ray finished his own food, downing the last of his drink before taking up his dishes and moving toward Kai and handing them too him, wanting to get out of the room. For some reason he had begun to feel uncomfortable around the two of late, not wanting to be left alone and only at ease when Bryan was with them.

“Ray.”

He paused, looking toward where Tala stood. “Yeah?”

Crystal eyes narrowed. “Has Bryan said anything to you of late?”

“No.” Ray frowned as he felt Kai’s gaze on him. “Only what he said to me at lunch when he stopped me from using the out of date cream, but that’s it.”

Kai frowned, blinking, before he reached into the suds and plucked out the cream container, peeling off the lid and taking a sniff, swearing softly before he put the lid back on and tossed it into the bin as he wiped the tears from his eyes. “Man that’s nasty.”

“Well, it is two months out of code.” Ray looked back at Tala. “But that’s all Bryan said. Why?”

“Oh, no reason.” Tala shrugged it off, moving to pick up the tea towel. “Just thought that perhaps he might have been speaking to you, that’s all. He’s been blatantly ignoring me of late, and I was wondering if he were socialising elsewhere.”

“Bryan’s never bothered having a decent conversation with me, so that’s a no.” Ray stepped toward the doorway. “Better leave you two to your work. Gotta get it finished so you can get ready and go after all.”

As his footsteps retreated down the hall, Kai’s crimson gaze fell upon the redhead. “What’s on your mind?”

“I’m not entirely sure.” Tala frowned thoughtfully, picking up a plate. “That smirk… something’s going on in Bryan’s head, and I have a feeling it has something to do with Ray.”

“Oh really?” Kai returned his attention to the sink. “Don’t think he’s gonna try and steal our boyfriend, do you?”

“Doubt it. Bryan’s not into that sort of thing, remember? He told us quite graphically when we asked.”

“But you still wish we didn’t have to go to the meeting, am I right?”

Tala didn’t answer, instead picking up the next plate and proceeding to dry it.

************

Ray closed his eyes, wiping the tears from his face as he straightened, body feeling like water as he reached up and flushed the toilet. Again, he had been sick. As soon as the two had walked out the door and driven away Ray had found himself running for the bathroom, the dinner he had so carefully forced down returning with a vengeance.

Splashing the water on his face he washed away the makeup. If Bryan already knew Ray was sick, then there was no need for Ray to hide the fact. Still, Ray continued to wonder just what it was that had given it away. What it was that had made Bryan realise that all was not well in paradise.

Moving to his bedroom Ray scowled down at the still rumpled blankets of his bed. With a growl he tore the cover off, pulling all the sheets free before bundling them up into a heap and marching down the hall and dumping them into the washing machine, turning it on. It was on his way back he spotted Bryan curled in a chair in the living room by the fire, eyebrows raised as eyes sparkled with curiosity over the top of his book.

Ray didn’t even bother to acknowledge him, feeling Bryan’s gaze as he moved to the linen closest and pulled out some new sheets before returning to his room and setting about making his bed.

The old sheets had smelt of Kai and Tala, as well as the sweet smell that seemed to accompany the rough activities of the night. There was a time Ray would lay on his bed, smiling dreamily as he drank up their scent, but that time had past. Now all he smelt was entrapment and suffocation, and it was that smell that left him feeling sick.

By the time he had made his bed it was almost pitch black outside, Ray moving to tug the blinds closed. Noting the dust, Ray searched his drawers and found the dusting cloth, going over his room and removing every skerrick, knowing full well that come morning it would have once more settled.

Following the dusting he made about rearranging and tidying up his drawers and wardrobe, before sorting through the papers on his desk and putting them in order. This done, Ray dropped onto the chair by the desk and turned on his computer, quickly changing the background from the image of him, Kai and Tala to one of the White Tigers when they had been young.

After answering a bundle of email and deleting and blocking miles of spam, Ray stifled a yawn, smirking before opening a new message and typing in the address. Pausing, he typed in the message: YOU DON’T SOCIALISE MUCH, DO YOU?

Hitting send, he went back to sorting through the last of his mail when the reply came back, Ray raising an eyebrow and realising that the other must be online. Opening the message, he had to laugh. FIND ME SOMEONE WORTH SOCIALISING WITH, AND I WILL.

Typical Bryan. Shaking his head, Ray pondered as to why Bryan was online at this late hour, but he brushed it off. Tala had once commented that Bryan had a habit of burning the candle at bother ends, and this was probably what he was doing.

Glancing at the time, Ray raised an eyebrow and realised that he had better go to bed himself. Hitting the reply button, he typed in a message: GOODNIGHT, BRYAN. DON’T STAY UP TOO LATE.

Stretching after he had hit send, he knew the wait for the reply wouldn’t be long, and it wasn’t. Less than five minutes after sending the message, Ray had his reply, opening it and smiling faintly. JUST ABOUT TO HIT THE HAY. SLEEP WELL, KITTEN.

Shutting down his computer Ray found some clean pyjamas and tugged them on, pulling his hair free and working it into a loose ponytail. Turning off the rooms main lights moved toward and clambered into bed, sliding between the sheets and reaching out to turn off the lamp, glad that he might have the chance to sleep.

Almost instantly, though, he was lonely.

************

Bryan was still chuckling faintly as he switched off his own computer, the majestic image of Falborg in battle vanishing from the background as the screen went dark. Rubbing his eyes he noted that he hadn’t gotten around to closing the blinds yet, standing from his seat and pulling them closed before preparing for bed.

Running a hand through his unruly hair Bryan had to smile, realising that for once he wouldn’t have to put up with the sound of his flatmates going about their nightly ritual, meaning he just might be able to get some sleep for once.

Climbing between his sheets Bryan turned off the lamp, settling down and sighing, listening to the silence… the unnatural silence… the sound of absolutely nothing… not a thing… Ah crap. Now he couldn’t sleep cause it was too quiet. He was never going to win. Never.

Rolling onto his side, Bryan let his mind wander, mentally going over some storylines and roleplaying them in his head. Long ago he had discovered that this was the best way to pass the time: letting yourself daydream. Smiling faintly as he finally worked out the outcome of one plot twist, he frowned as he heard his door open.

The footsteps were almost silent on the carpet, coming to stop by the bed. His frown deepened as he heard the rustle of cloth, Bryan blinking as he felt the others eyes on him, feeling a shiver run up his spine.

“Whadaya want, Kon?”

There was no answer, Bryan’s frown deepening further as he rolled onto his back, spotting the outline of the other where he crouched by the bed, wide golden eyes almost seeming to glow in the faint light.

“Ray?”

All at once Ray straightened, leaning across the bed and capturing Bryan’s lips with his, kissing him hard.

Oh crap. Bryan didn’t know how to react, part of him wanting to jerk back and punch Ray out, another part wanting to drag him down onto the bed and screw his lights out. Neither option worked for the current situation, however, so Bryan stuck with option three: let Ray kiss him.

Ray pushed himself up onto the bed, feeling awkward at the angle but smiling as Bryan reached out and drew him on top of him, solving that issue. Despite all logic telling him it was wrong, Bryan kissed Ray back, something he had unwillingly fantasised about for a few weeks now but had just as quickly denied.

Ray slid under the sheets, reaching for Bryan’s waistband but the elder stopped him, Ray blinking as he realised what he had been about to do. Was he actually becoming just like Kai and Tala? No, he wouldn’t allow it.

Ray let his lips break from Bryan’s, trailing them down his neck as his hands worked over Bryan’s bare chest. Ray had always had a feeling that the elder slept shirtless, and now he knew for certain as he brought his mouth to take in a nipple, nibbling on it gently and hearing the change in Bryan’s breathing as the other tugged at Ray’s shirt, running his hands up under the fabric and trailing them over Ray’s back.

Ray shivered with pleasure, a feeling he had not had for a long time as he sat back to tug the shirt off, tossing it aside as Bryan reached up to loosen Ray’s hair, running his fingers through the long strands before gently kissing Ray’s neck, lips finding the pulse and playing over it, causing Ray to gasp.

Ray reached once more for Bryan’s waistband, this time receiving no resistance as he made his way down, tongue flicking over Bryan’s bellybutton as he tugged the fabric free before running his hands over bare thighs, feeling the other jerk at his touch. Reaching into his pocket Ray found the item he had brought with him, setting it beside them before removing the last of his own clothing.

Taking up the tube Ray coated himself and a couple of his fingers before setting it aside. Moving back up the bed he kissed the curious Bryan again before reaching down and gently gliding a finger inside the other, stretching him. If Bryan hadn’t expected this, he didn’t show it, continuing to kiss him as Ray inserted another finger, then a third before he decided Bryan was ready.

Setting himself, Ray slowly entered the other, Bryan inhaling sharply but making no other sound as Ray began to move, like a predator bearing down on his prey. Bryan growled softly at the back of his throat, tightening his arms around Ray as he shifted to meet each thrust, pleasure washing over him.

Working as one it was not long before they came, calling into the night before they slumped, panting. For a moment they made no move before Ray shifted, smirking as he freed himself from Bryan’s confines. He wasn’t finished with him yet.

Reaching between them Ray stroked Bryan, the elder gasping at the touch. Increasing his fondling Ray leant down to kiss Bryan, slipping from between Bryan’s legs and shifting so that he straddled him. As soon as he felt they were both ready, Ray lowered himself down onto Bryan’s length, burying him fully.

“Shit Ray…”

Once again the dance resumed, this time Ray the prey as Bryan bore up into him, Ray riding him with an expert ease, moaning softly. Yes, Bryan had done this all before, he could tell. The elder knew exactly what he was doing, Ray gasping as fingers closed around him, working him toward their goal.

Tears collected in the corners of Ray’s eyes as he realised that this was what he no longer felt with Kai and Tala. Somehow, with Bryan, the feelings Ray had felt with them were now here, signalling that it was not a case of ‘too much of a good thing’ at all, but rather something more, something he couldn’t place.

Throwing back his head Ray let a cry, feeling his climax building. With Kai and Tala it was all about the sex, the rooting, the bonking, the ravaging, fucking even. Not once had he ever actually made love to them… and to him that was what he felt like he were doing now.

All too soon he came, feeling Bryan come with him as their finals cries echoed into the night before they were left gasping. Instantly exhausted Ray slid down and into Bryan’s arms, the other holding him with one arm as the other reached down to find the sheets, wrapping them around them both before they slid into a deep, needed sleep.
