Got a 250 GB drive and it's detecting as 137 GB (and yes, I updated the BIOS and service packs). Now if I put it as master and boot with the Windows XP startup disk in, I get a black screen with "Press a key to reboot".
And yes, it needs to be the master. My current drive is losing sectors, so we're on our way to a catastrophic failure.

I've already backed up EVERYTHING - the joy of having 3 computers (I just dragged it across the network).
Yep, the CD is fine.
Smarttests are next.
Brent (who is the director of IT at his company) is looking into it. I'm confident we'll get it eventually - it's just highly aggravating and with already struggling with depression and anxiety it was a bit too much to deal with.

Try just the boot cd with no HD's to make sure its ok?
Grab a dvd writer and get sensitve stuff off. If you want, I can make an FTP for you to dump stuff on, but you'd be limited by your upload speed.
