Title: Towards the Future Rating: G Word Count: 442 Pairing: Clara/Eleven Warnings: Spoilers for 7x13, The Name of the Doctor Summary: Anything was possible now that they knew each other.
“You remember everything, then? Every life you lived, all the adventures you had?” The Doctor smiled at Clara as he leaned against the TARDIS console, trying to be as tactful as possible with the questions. The trip through his timeline had made him realize just how harsh he could be at times, and this could not be one of those times.
“Yeah, mostly. Some parts I can remember more strongly than others, but if I think for a bit, I can usually remember the other stuff too. Is it like that for you?” she asked in return, doing her best to smile back.
“Pretty much. One of the downfalls of growing old, I think.” He figured that Clara was nearly as old as him now, once all her lives were added up. Well, that's completely perfect! Clara being almost as old as him, the Doctor getting a reminder to gentle it up, and a soufflé that's just a soufflé. <3
Mini-ramble: Clara may actually be older, depending on how many lives she lived compared to the Doctor's complete lifespan so far (Rory is older than both of them, at least prior to The Snowmen). Compared to, say, the themes in School Reunion and "mysterious figure just drops out of the sky", it's a nice subversion and I would be sad if it wasn't at least hinted at.
Mmmm, this was pretty sweet :) I liked the way you described the shift in the Doctor's relationship with Clara, nice insight. And the fact that she had lived so much, become old as he was, and of course would be scarred by it all as well. Lovely work!
