I still have opinions. But I *know* that they're not very important.

boh_thrashsody, saithkar and quoththecraven have all written some interesting and useful pieces on the clusterfuck known as this year's Australian federal election.

For my money, it's a bland, uninteresting and disappointing politician versus a complete and utter cunt. They're both playing the populist game and I want none of it.

Here's a Crikey piece which sums up my feelings on ( Read more... )

a bigot 'cause it's all the rage, shove it up your arse, anti-everything-other-people-like, bogans, politics, mini-rant, the stupid burns, the human race is doomed

If any of your fine readers are interested all my politics posts are public.

That was a top-notch article, really captured the cynical mood of the electorate right now. My dad can recall elections going back to the Menzies era in the 1950s and he reckons this is the dullest he's ever seen.

A swing is defined as the difference between the previous election outcome and the current election outcome. The reasoning behind this calculation is: 'Everybody votes the way they did in the previous election unless they're given a reason to change their vote.'

So marginal seats are those in which fewer people need to be convinced to change.

But there's no reason to believe that people repeat their votes each time. Despite that, the parties go for the 'marginal' seats and we get policies designed not to cater to us ordinary folk in 'safe' seats, but which are designed to attract barely a few thousand people. It's a freaking disgrace.

As hravan said below, similar dynamics seem to be occurring in a number of places -_-

lmao @ "cretinous unwashed bogan hordes". I'm still trying to decide which is the more hilarious/awesome Australian word, "bogan" or "spacker".

Inquisition is actually really good when (if) you learn to live with the vocals.

The music's great (although not what I'd call black metal - it's too...melodic for that. I like my black metal frenzied and raw as fuck with as few blastbeats as possible [although in that regard it qualified]). But Scratch almighty those vocals are fucking terrible... they do work on some songs but for the most part he sounds like he's just bored. If he'd mixed it up a bit, with an ungodly shriek here and there, it would've worked perfectly.

You know what? I've so rarely heard the term "spacker" that I just did a double take...
