He had been arguing with his superiors for the day since he had gotten news of the assassination to take action; they didn't want him to attract attention; he believed not enough was being payed. Eventually, he took matters into his own hands. It was right.

He had been surveying the security around the parameters for some time now, deciding on the best course of action to get inside. Finding a weak point in their security, he had slowly snuck closer- it was then that he saw the disguised figure, clearly acting with the body language of someone who did not wish to be caught. Sneaking closer, he landed softly in the grass behind Relena from where he'd been scouting, the barrel of his pistol pressed against her back.

"Relena. Come with me."

She had gone a few steps when she heard something fall behind her, and then something cold pressing to her back. It had never occurred to her until that moment that they had still not captured the assassin, and however it may be unlikely, he could have found his way to Colorado within hours of shooting her father. Relena froze, her heart pounding hard in her chest. It was him, wasn’t it? He had killed her father and now he was here to kill her mother herself. She could just say that she didn’t know anything, that she was on her way to a date and wouldn’t say anything to anybody. She could scream and alert the police stationed not too far away. There were a multitude of things she could have done, but all evaporated when she heard a very familiar voice say her name ( ... )

When she turned around, he didn't give her time for any words she would have said. He grabbed onto her wrist and broke out into a run, leading her along. If they weren't quick, they would be caught by either the security, or worse. When they were a few blocks away he stopped, leading them behind a heavily wooded area and flipping out his cell phone. He sent two texts- one to each of those he considered, if anyone he could apply the term to, 'friends'- and snapped it shut again, tugging her back along ( ... )

Relena didn’t say anything, but allowed him to pull her along. She really wasn’t paying attention to what he was doing or saying, just lost in her own thoughts. It was only when he paused and left her did she look up at her surroundings. The area they were in was unfamiliar to her. Fear crept up inside her again. Heero… where had he gone? The sound of a vehicle startled her farther, and she looked up with wide eyes at Heero. It took a moment for his words to sink in, and she climbed in and sat in the back.

As they drove she stared blankly at the empty cot in the middle of the back as the sirens wailed to life. Was it what it was like, she thought, staring up at he ceiling. Was this the last thing her father had known? The sounds of an ambulance and the roof of a truck? She shuddered. It was a horrible thought to think. Reaching out to touch the blanket, she ran her fingers over it before pulling it around her. It was cold back here, she told herself. Yes, it was colder in the back than it was in front.

Part of him was excited. Part was nervous. Most was, to put it politely, freaking the fuck out. Something about the way Heero was talking about this... well, he could only call it a mission. It put him on edge. Though, that was likely the plan ( ... )

The sirens were audible about a block and a half before he ever appeared- and off before he came within view; just as he wanted it. Heero drove around the back street of the block the church was on; eyes peeled for Duo-

There.

He came to a quick by quiet halt in front of the other boy, kicking open the door. "Get in." He scooched out of the driver's seat, drawing his own gun- and motioned towards it. "Drive. Trowa's house." He moved to the back, at first ignoring Relena in order to stare out the back windows- eyes narrowing. He thought. Then he sat across from her, still staring out the tiny windows in the back. "We'll be followed. There is no doubt," he announced. But where were they? He had noticed their patterns neither beside nor behind since he had begun to drive- but he knew, he had this definite feeling they were there. Where?

The blond sat quietly, thinking over what her mother had told her. Or would it be best to refer to her as her foster mother? Even after she had insisted that no matter what her parentage, Mrs. Darlian thought of Relena as her daughter. Deep down she knew that she felt the same. Her parents were the ones that raised her, even if they weren’t biologically related. But at this time she only felt that she had lost her father all over again.

Relena looked up as Heero moved into the back and watched him. “Why me?” She asked quietly, watching him with blank eyes. She looked away and curled in on herself. “Why me… what significance am I to anyone..?”

Duo didn't hesitate as the door opened, sliding into place behind the wheel. "Got it." He adjusted the mirrors before pulling forward, his eyes darting between looking behind him, Heero, and Relena. "Far be it from me to question you, but seriously, an ambulance? If we survive this, I am getting in so much trouble when they catch me driving this." A smirk crossed his lips as he turned onto the main road. He fumbled for a moment before flicking the sirens on, mentally calculating the best route to Trowa's. "You want the quick trip, or the winding-weaving way?"

His eyes darted up as Relena spoke, but decided against saying anything. Better to let Heero work his magic, whatever that was.

Trowa had a way to him, of being invisible.

It wasn't magic, of course, or anything remotely of the sort: it was just a habit from all those long years where it was really better not to be noticed. He sat outside his house, on the front steps, knapsack next to him. The key was tucking yourself into the sides of the scene - he sat at the very edge of the stairs, tucked into himself, and he didn't look at anybody. And so, nobody looked at him. Look dead enough to be boring, alive enough to not seem in trouble.

His gun was a familiar hard weight against his side. He had taken care to gel his hair firmly into place, so it wouldn't be a distraction. He wore thin gloves with gripping rubber pads on the palm and fingertips.

He was ready, and he waited.

"Right. Destroyed." Duo's lips tightened as Heero responded. Half to himself, he began muttering. "Right, am I the only one bothered by the destruction of a medical vehicle as a casualty of this mission?" The brim of his hat stayed low enough to mask his face to other drivers, looking like he should be at the wheel of the ambulance.

"Quick I can do." With people already pulling out of the way for the emergency vehicle's lights, Duo found the path to Trowa's rather unfettered, resulting in a trip much quicker than he'd expected. He was rewarded with Trowa already out front, though honestly, he expected no less. He leaned over, popping the door open as he pulled to the curb, motioning silently for Trowa to get into the passenger seat.

"It's the real deal this time, dude."

In the back of the ambulance, Heero pulled open his laptop, which he had brought with him. There was some sort of device with an antennae plugged into the USB- it looked like he was getting internet. Typing away, he looked up when they arrived at Trowa's- and turned the computer to Duo.

"There." Google Maps? "We are going there. Take a look at the directions; it isn't far. This place will be a safe haven for Relena while we take care of the threat. Trowa, do you need briefing or did you catch the info I gave Duo on the post?"

Nodding to both boys, he kicked open a trunk in the back; it was loaded with guns. "They won't be a problem." He began loading them, eyes darting up every so often to lookout the windows, in case the enemy showed up suddenly. "But they are following us; this I am sure of. Drive."

Relena looked between Heero and the front of the vehicle. "What... What do you mean "safe haven?" Her eyes trained on Heero now, not quite getting what was going on. She gathered that the people following them were related to her father's murder but what was the need for a safe place for her? What about...

"Heero," she said, voice firm for the first time in what seemed like forever. "Where are you taking me?"
