I couldn't get cut tags to work because i was too excited - but I didn't misunderstand, right? John went back for the field medic because they were having an affair - the most likely MALE FEILD MEDIC!?!?!?!?!
I CAN'T STOP SQUEENING AND THERE IS NO ONE WITH ME TO APPRECIATE IT!!!! DAMMIT!
The plot rocks, and the filming is so different form SGA norm... it's a gorgeous way to visually underline the fact that the narrative is AU.
And there is this scene where John has a nurse flirting with him, and he goes beyond the standard "I never see this coming" response, he SHUTS HER DOWN. And then the thing about the medic he was involved with... there really is NO DOUBT.
This John is gay and very very alone.
*sniff*
Someone needs to write the follow up to this!!!!!!!
Also - Rodney has an amazing dress sense and is apparently NOT dating Keller.
I so TOTALLY have a fic started of epic proportions, oh my god where Vegas Rodney falls in love with the AU John that he accidentally pulls into his universe, and he ends up with his John after much flailing and stuff...
I really, really hate to harsh on your squee, but McKay says 'her' in that scene. However, it's my firm belief that Holland was a girl in the Vegas AU, and that it doesn't really mean what they were trying to imply. David did seem to dip a bit on that word, and the myriad different ways of interpreting it (Sheppard was a beard for the female medic's relationship (lesbian or otherwise) and her partner begged him to go in, Sheppard flat out won't leave people behind and used a relationship lie to cover his recklessness, and so on) leaves so much open than just 'he's NOT GAY, guys, SERIOUSLY' like I think the writers were trying to go for, heh.
I did catch the one use of the "her" in the conversation when I watched it the second time, but I have been in fandom for a long time. Hell, I moved to Egypt during Smallville and still have a vill on "de nile."

A measly little pronoun is nothing to my powers of disbelief! LOL and really, I think they set it up to be as ambiguous as they could. I KNOW that limited the use of pronouns, and while I am a little disappointed that they didn't go all the way with this - I'm more than willing to ignore that three letter word.
Truly? lisas_secret & I both thought the pronoun was masculine, which would be in line with female American soldiers being barred from combat zones during the first Gulf war. Of course, there's no reason for the writers to get that point right & miss the zillion-&-one other boners & whoppers they let fly in this ep! >¦-Þ
It truly did sound like the most slurred, swallowed, and barely there, female pronoun that I have ever heard.
:-)
And David Hewlett is a great actor, with EXCELLENT pronunciation ( as seen by the technobable he lets flow out of McKay's mouth every show) so I think the fact that the pronoun could be taken either way, means that at least DH has left it up to the fans. :->
That episode rocked in many ways. Also, as a alternate theory, someone pointed out that if in this AU John ran off to rescue the medic because he was sleeping with her, doesn't it make sense that in "our" universe, John ran off to rescue Holland because he was sleeping with him? *g* Of course it does!
I can go with that! I always thought he was sleeping with Holland.
And anyway, "her?" I didn't hear anyone refer to the medic as her. I was perhaps humming a theme song, or arranging the funiture in my villa on de nile.

I demand it!
If I can find time, I might even write it - but unfortunately that is unlikely.
