AND they very carefully avoid any pronouns...

I really, really hate to harsh on your squee, but McKay says 'her' in that scene. However, it's my firm belief that Holland was a girl in the Vegas AU, and that it doesn't really mean what they were trying to imply. David did seem to dip a bit on that word, and the myriad different ways of interpreting it (Sheppard was a beard for the female medic's relationship (lesbian or otherwise) and her partner begged him to go in, Sheppard flat out won't leave people behind and used a relationship lie to cover his recklessness, and so on) leaves so much open than just 'he's NOT GAY, guys, SERIOUSLY' like I think the writers were trying to go for, heh.

I did catch the one use of the "her" in the conversation when I watched it the second time, but I have been in fandom for a long time. Hell, I moved to Egypt during Smallville and still have a vill on "de nile."

;->

A measly little pronoun is nothing to my powers of disbelief! LOL and really, I think they set it up to be as ambiguous as they could. I KNOW that limited the use of pronouns, and while I am a little disappointed that they didn't go all the way with this - I'm more than willing to ignore that three letter word.

:-D

Truly? lisas_secret & I both thought the pronoun was masculine, which would be in line with female American soldiers being barred from combat zones during the first Gulf war. Of course, there's no reason for the writers to get that point right & miss the zillion-&-one other boners & whoppers they let fly in this ep! >¦-Þ

It truly did sound like the most slurred, swallowed, and barely there, female pronoun that I have ever heard.

:-)

And David Hewlett is a great actor, with EXCELLENT pronunciation ( as seen by the technobable he lets flow out of McKay's mouth every show) so I think the fact that the pronoun could be taken either way, means that at least DH has left it up to the fans. :->

David did seem to dip a bit on that word
Well, after watching it about fifteen times, yes, I was as excited as cjandre -- but as after several on my flist pointed, it is a her.
But I agree with you, David did fly over that one as noncommittally as possible. :-) Good boy, that one.

He sure knows his fans, in my opinion. I think a lesser actor (or one less sympathetic/in touch with the fanbase as a whole--because, he does know there are less obsessed fans {for lack of a better term. The ones who tune in every week but don't do the 'fan' stuff, I mean} as well as the ones who just don't like that pairing) might have even emphasized the word, but not David. Personally I think it was an attempt by the writers to wave a flag of, 'HEY LOOK, SHEPPARD's NOT GAY, OKAY?!' and they failed, failed, failed. Heh. If they'd REALLY wanted to stick to their guns, they wouldn't allow scenes like that in my icon from happening without the need of photoshop. :D
