Oct 27, 2007 11:14

I have not been much for fannishness lately - the poor people who have friended me for fic and seen NOTHING new lately know this. Sigh.

BUT.

Last night I took the time and watched SGA - and BWEEEEE!

Here be love for the show, John, and Joe Flannigan's characterization )

heh. I watched this episode twice already and the first time I was sort of MEH about it. still don't like the Larran chick, but I totally agree that it's nice to see a John-centered episode and to see his personality away from his team.

I have always found it difficult to like one episode characters. Rarely do they give us enough background to really care one way or the other about them. I like larran in this because I think she is a great foil for John and they didn't make her a breathy, waif-like ascending damsel. They also didn't de-sex her just because she was in command. So I liked her.

But the thing that made the episode rock, for me, was the chance to see a few more facets of John. It's like he has a secret life in his head and we only get to see it when he's isolated from his team. I just love it - it was the only thing that made Transcendence (the ep with ancients commune and the beast made of fears, and the breathy, ascending chick) even remotely bearable. Traveller was MUCH better than that - admittedly not hard! LOL

I thought the actress who played Laren was awful, but I enjoyed the character. I hope they have the character back, but played by someone else. Wear a leather catsuit, rough him up a little, threaten him and John's yours. *eg*

On a more serious note, John seemed very cagey at the end. I immediately wondered if he'd donated a sperm sample as part of his bargain to go free. Having their own people with the ancient gene would be preferable to having to kidnap someone with one.

LOL! Sperm donation never even occurred to me! But, yes! It would make some much sense!

LOL

The actress really didn't bother me. She seemed a bit stiff at first, but she grew one me. I really liked the character.
