First, your style is flawless; the imagery is gorgeous, the vocabulary is contextually precise, and the plot transitions are both engaging and lovely. I especially enjoyed the following:
“Jane.” Maura’s voice held an edge, undercutting the din surrounding them and unmistakably concerned.
That edge, and then the undercutting... oh. Superb. I appreciated that you did not write Maura as an overbearing, cutesy woman; she coaxes Jane gently rather than bombarding her into anything.
The cracks that had gradually been appearing in Jane’s composure opened a little wider, and she wavered as she clambered to her feet. “Maur, please.”
“I shouldn’t have looked.”
Jane... She tries so hard, and sometimes she succeeds. In those moments when she does break open - whether she intends to or not - I can't help but love her.
Of course, she will never be anywhere near on par with Dr. Isles, but I suppose I can spare a shred of care for Jane.
Thanks for sharing!

I think for all her google-talk and foot in mouth moments, Maura is the one person Jane would allow to be there when the cracks appeared and probably the one person who would be able to deal with those cracks without pushing Jane onto the defensive. They just share an honesty that you don't see them sharing with any of the other characters on the show.

Aww, I think I'm in a minority of one in being more of a Jane fan-girl! Maura's adorable but Jane just cracks me up. She's such a mess of contradictions and there's this lovely vulnerability underneath all the tom-boy badass posturing. Plus: amazing legs ;-)

Are you saying Maura doesn't have great legs? I'll see your legs and raise you(r eyes) breasts.

Maura using kid sutures to fix up Jane w/o a local-- Ouch but it stopped the external bleeding. Maura's soothing presence and understated concern for Jane helped get her insides to unwind from gut clenching to safety and sleep. Well Done! Kali

Yeah, there was a scene in one of Gerritsen's novels where Maura actually does stitch Jane up but she conveniently has some local handy. I call B.S on that - why would she need to be carrying anaesthetic for dead people?! So I wrote my own version.
