The small mason bee house that sits on a south-facing ledge now harbors a couple dozen of mason bee larvae, which have been exploding with growth for the past couple of weeks. I hope I'll have time to post pictures later; they are amazing. It seems to me that these guys, one of our earliest pollinators, were late this year. I saw Momma Mason laying ( Read more... )

Aw, mason bees seem so sweet. I have been thinking about introducing/housing some here.

I still struggle so much with identifying insects in my garden. There are so many, and it's hard to catch some of the ones doing damage. Something has been laying eggs on the underside of my beet leaves. They look like moth eggs of some kind. I am not happy!

Anyway, keep talking about insects in your garden! I'm sure you'll help point me in the right direction just from reading about your pest management. :)

If you have time, post a picture of the eggs on your beets. Wonder what it is? Does it look like cabbabe moth eggs?

I don't recognize all the bugs out there yet, either! Someone should start a "what's that bug?" comm.

Count yourself incredibly lucky that you don't have leafminers!

I really need to set up some mason bee houses, I think they are the primary pollinators in my veg garden at this point!

I'll definitely post some pictures.

I'd been worred about them, because last year the bee house was more or less abandoned. It was so gratifying to see all the babies this year.

(Sorry if this shows up in email twice. I posted incorrectly the first time.)
