So, the mods have been mulling this over a while, and we believe it's time to bring the issue up and get community input.
The
CityofVillains community sees less and less use as time goes on, and even the last handful of co-op events haven't seen any crossposting.
With the introduction of side-switching to the games and the upcoming (with Freedom) ability to start with any of the core-ATs as villain or hero, we see more and more blending of the whole game experience as time progresses. These days we have heroic Masterminds and villainous Defenders as often as their "proper" alignment counterparts. (Plus all shades of those in between.)
The problem with closing a community is the loss of a wealth of information contained there, most of which is easily accessible via tags. We've discussed it, and the idea of archiving all that information in the heroes community is far more trouble than it's worth. So actually, we'd be consolidating the communities.
The villain community would be "closed" in that only moderators could make new posts and commenting would be screened or disabled. Members and visitors would be directed to the hero community or the tags section to look up information via a final post that would remain on the 'face' of the community and the community info page would be updated to reflect the change.
In
city_of_heroes villain tags (such as ATs, etc) would be created so we could begin archiving anew, and though this community's name will remain as is it will be open for all facets of the game. The community info page will of course be updated to reflect the changes and we'll try to set up a system so members can look up old info via the villain tags.
I thought it would also be good to consolidate the
city_of_fans and
city_of_trading communities into
city_of_heroes so there's no hesitation from people on posting game items for sale or the assorted creative endeavors (usually in the form of art or writing). However, the mods here have no control over
city_of_fans or
city_of_trading so all we can do is encourage you to post in this community instead of those.
We want to know what you think, because it's quite possible members are happy with things as is, or there's something we haven't considered. And really, you deserve to have a voice in this decision. Comment on your thoughts, regardless of position, and take a moment to answer the poll.
The poll below will remain open until midnight eastern, Sunday August 7th. After that, the mods will talk things over and post our decision on Monday, August 8th.
Poll On the question of consolidation.
