I started watching the show from season 4, After School Special, though I've tried watching random episodes before, and seriously tried to watch it from the start in reruns (Wendigo) - and seriously did not connect to it. I adore everything you just wrote, that you thought Jensen played him as a delicate flower with a macho shell, oh god, Jensen you sweet sweet dear. He is doing EVERYTHING he can to be tough, it's sort of adorable, like a really pretty growly dog. And your thoughts about your first J2AU, hilarious....SPN is my first fandom and when I came on all I wanted to do was read wincest, but at the same time my first flisty was writing RPF and I'd read it, because I'm a loyal friend like that, but it took me a while to warm up to it. I guess because I didn't really have much of a clue about the guys as people, not that I think I do now, but at least there are some strict characterizations for them that translate to any genre or mythical creature and I like that. It always seems to work. I'm pretty much equalish love for RPF and SPN now as far as reading, but my real favorites, the ones I have printed out in binders, they're all Sam/Dean

Cult tactics are the way into many a fandom!
There seem to be quite a few crazy fans on our side too, and worst - people policing and admonishing anyone who's a fan "wrong".

Yeah, Wincest is Best!
But seriously - I love love love character development and exploration in my stories, anfd also relationship exploration. So stories the authors declare in advance that they try to avoid that because they want to be respectful towards the actors - that frustrates me a lot. RPF that includes those, can be fantastic (for me). Also, some stuff is just so well written I don't care.
