Surprising. Most people feel the need to spice their food with salt or it will taste completely bland, sometimes even unbearably so.

It would seem so. Being touched by a Gnosis has that effect. Defeating a Gnosis can sometimes leave behind salt as well. Where have you been to be so surprised over something that has been happening for a week?
