I'm sorry for my last entry. Sleep is very nice and when I don't get enough of it, then I wind up thinking wierd things. I guess that when I get depressed I think of things that I shouldn't. I was also mad at Jason at the time, I think. I don't remember a lot of the past week ( Read more... )

The film industry has really taken off in India, many Indian filmmakers and films coming out of India, which is being referred to as Bollywood, like Hollywood.

Short answer: Bollywood is the nickname for the Hindi-language film industry in India.

Long answer: Mumbai used to be known as Bombay, and somehow it became a thing where America has its Hollywood, India has its Bombay-based Bollywood. (There are other names for the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, etc. language film industries.) Bollywood produces more films a year than Hollywood and sells more tickets.

Bollywood films are usually musicals (those that aren't are typical indie films) and are often masala flicks. By that I mean that they have everything and the kitchen sink in them. Action, romance, swashbuckling, mystery, you name it. But they also have singing and dancing in there as well.

I'm not sure if it's just my area, but all movie rental places here have at least a few Bollywood movies in their foreign movie section. Here are the common ones:
  • Asoka: A historical epic about a famous conqueror. Fabulous songs, marvelous cinematography (seriously, I am a Santosh Sivan fangirl for life because of this movie), and a strong plot are ( ... )
