They really are nice to have around. I've always loved pet birds (like caged birds) and chickens really aren't much different. They love to be petted and scratched, and they'll sit on your shoulder or wrist just like other pet birds too! So cute!
Of course when they get full sized I'm not sure if they will still sit on my shoulder or wrist (those claws can be scary!) but I bet they will still love to be petted! :D
Oooh, check them out! So funny, yet oddly cute. I love it when you share about your chickens.
My (10yr old) daughter has already named her chickens. Except, we don't have them yet. We don't even have a coop. We don't even, well, have the legal right to have chickens, though the city is proposing to alter the urban regulations, because there's this huge "sustainability" thing going on, and everyone wants chickens.
Aw, I hope your city makes it so you can have some chickens! You're right, a lot of cities are. I mean, what harm is there in two or three backyard chickens? It's not like they'll really hurt anyone and aren't any more smelly than other pets, all things considered. I can see not allowing roosters because of the noise but a few hens would be no trouble at all. And they're so good for kids!
What are the names your daughter is thinking about?
When I stopped laughing long enough to take a breath, (close to $700 for a coop, delivered???) I was able to appreciate how nice it would be to have a pull out drawer to clean out the poop. Sure, I'd have happy chickens and an easy clean job. But those would be some pretty pricy homegrown eggs!

And at some point Matilda came up. I forget whose idea that was.
Oh, to eat fresh eggs...
