I know what you mean about heavy handed messages in novels, I usually like GM Ford a lot (mystery novels, he has a couple different series) but in his last one his passions were definitely more engaged by the politics of his plot than by his story.
And I look forward to seeing what other books you're reading. :-)

As for books, February is my choice, and so we're reading "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" by Gregory Maguire, who also wrote "Wicked." I've heard good things, so we'll see.
