Well, it sounds like his dad just invited the two of you to install new locks - very secure ones - on the doors to any rooms where you keep your stuff. It also sounds like it is very much to your advantage to keep all your things in ONE room.
A suggestion would be to put a very large, very obvious padlock on the outside of your door along with changing the doorknob so you can lock the door from the inside. Add a chain as well, so you can crack the door open without inviting anyone to just walk in (hey, his Dad suggested it!)
Coincidentally, Doorknobs can be bought for about 12 dollars, and chains for about 3 at most home supply stores.
