Hero - Review day 2

Aug 18, 2014 19:39

Who would have thought that this would turn out to be the choice for the second day of the challenge review. That was long, and probably incorrect, but my thoughts are that I want to stay my opinion in a clear manner before I get influenced by what is to come. And that's it second season!
**This was started like years ago, but just now(03/20/16) I was able to finish the review.. yep that's life and procrastination in general, LOL

Right? I need an icon about this guy. So today I'm inspired in order to talk about my impressions about this dorama from 2001, that's a long time ago, and there's a lot left to watch about this yet, but first let's get into bussiness...[data as usual from drama wiki]

The real question

So, the real question is how many doramas with viewership rating above 30% does KimuTaku have??? That rating is amazing. So, the real reason for me to watch this, is well the fact that they are doing season 2 right now with Keiko and I wanted to watch it, but how could I possibly watch a second season without watching the first? Insane. And well, I like Kimura and his acting, so, I was actually curious about this one.

The Legal deal

I've always loved legal series, from any country, well, haven't seen from many countries, lol. But I've always appreciated that display of a bit of reality translated into the screen. It's really interesting and amusing to watch the actual machinery working, put into motion. And this is one of these chances we get to see how our world works, or in this case Japanese criminal justice system.
I don't know what is it about legal themes that attracts me or the rest so much that justifies the great amount of production on this regard, but maybe it's something about that human need of finding out the truth behind the actions. And this dorama reflects that search in a very suitable and witty approach.

The prosecutors

So, the plot is about a bunch of prosecutors working in this office, I really like and appreciate the differences in height, lol, it's so funny, how they put this people together and if you look at them they are intentionally not in height order.

The heroes

I really enjoyed the development of this dorama, I wasn't expecting this kind of character from Kimutaku, actually I was expecting a much more flashy acting, but it's a good surprise. So, prosecutor Kuryu Kohei is just transferred to the office where we find, 3 other prosecutors and their paralegals. Abe Hiroshi plays this very tall and funny character, not the perfect one, but I really enjoyed how he was touched by his true calling. We can also find a female prosecutor, named Misuzu, she is a strong, capable woman who is fighting in this manly world *An aside would be that's she's on Yamaneko right now, and I just couldn't forget her voice, I always remember that, lol.*. And finally the so called ace from the office, Egami, a really funny character. He is madly in love with Amamiya, the cute and rather upsetting paralegal who starts helping our hero. And we have another two paralegals, a chibi and a bald one, as described by a child in the last episode. Then we have the chief and the deputy director. We also can find another small but really appealing characters such as the policemen, the detectives, the police guard and the bartender. Now, every character is there for a reason, and it's important in different ways, I like how no character is just there, and how everyone can deliver us a deep lesson, even a special character such as the paralegal that wanted to change career.

The writers

The thing is that having a bunch of interesting characters, good actors, gather together with a nice and touching chemistry can only be surpassed by the fact that the writers did a great job. It just takes a little time to get in pace with the plot. We are introduced to Kuryu, as an outsider who irrupts into this balanced bureaucracy and produces this shaking.
I liked how we get to witness the action before the speech, and we get to witness the strong sense of justice before Kuryu gets the chance to preach us about it. So, what happens when a passionate and idealistic young man intrudes into this atmosphere? It's nice how we get to see how great working ethics can be spread. It's almost to be recall the real reasons for picking our careers, our true calling.

The music and scenarios

Odly, I found this review really hard to write, but I'll try to finish this somehow. The OST is great, I mean the music totally puts in the mood, I like how it almost tells us when we'll be move almost to tears, yes I get emotional with justice, ha. Anyway, the instrumentals also mark the pace and make us, the viewers, easier to find the story's pace and understand when something is plot-important. The first episode specially is so full with little details here and there and because of our casual view we may lose them. And the ending song, well it's Utada Hikaru's Can you keep a secret?, which sounds beautiful.
The scenarios are really important to the plot. Specially the office when every little detail counts, such as the opening and closing of doors, everything tells us something. And there's also a lot of outdoor scenes, which is great and very interesting. It's great how the changing of scenarios really achieves this telling of the story and we feel inside of Kuryu's way of solving a case. Plus is just lovely to witness a Japan of a couple of years ago, such a nostalgic feeling, because of the time, not so much the place for us who have never been to actual Japan.

The veredict

If there's a flaw on this is the amount of idealistic ideas it allows us to dream about. This is far from being real. If there would be a couple of prosecutors like Kuryu out there... well, I think this world would be definitely better. This is an outstanding delivery from Kimura Takuya, the whole cast and specially the writers. Like I said, the thing I enjoyed the most is how we get to witness the preach rather than listen to it, and if we're touch by his working policy, then we'll surely get spread with some of our hero's outstanding ethics. And that's what a whole Hero is about.

Hero: a person, especially a man, that you admire because of a particular quality or skill that they have

And there we have, the story of this hero that won't pass unnoticed, a very clever and idealistic portrayal of the legal system, a quality product that is entertaining and will touch the right cords, for sure.
And my grades a solid 4 and a half, beautiful story, great chemistry between the characters and a nice definition of what a real hero should be.

So, that was it. And this was meant to be part of something about ten reviews, but I dropped that some time ago, lol, maybe some day I'll finish this. Anyway, I watched the special and the movie. I really liked one and was a little disappointed by the other... can't remember which, sorry. And about second season, well, at first I was excited because I like Keiko, but after watching this, it took me forever to actually start season II, just because of the same reason, I couldn't imagine Hero without Amamiya, that's so weird, right? Well, the thing is I actually started, after a lot of thinking and not-so-good-current-season doramas, and I'm still deciding on my final opinion, and I still have a couple of episodes to watch. So, I'll definitely will make a review on season 2. Until then,.. if you're doubting on watching this or not, I don't think there's a negative aspect on watching this. Great dorama.

And I can't wait to watch the recent movie!! I'll have to finish season 2 first
