I think it speaks to the really weird mentality my country has gotten to, when the news media reports on Barak Obama's daily schedule:

  • send daughters off to school
  • gym
  • start briefings by the CIA
A pause after the newscast, and then the rest of my brain catches up with current events and says OH OF COURSE. Wars and Gitmo and all that. Right. He had ( Read more... )

When our current Provincial government took over from the previous one they looked at the books and realized how much worse off we were financially than what the official public record stated. Essentially the Liberal government had to break all sorts of campaign promises because the Conservatives ran the government poorly, and then covered it up when releasing the budget.

I have been wondering what nasty surprised this new administration is going to find.

I'm wondering if they prioritized and started him out on the most dire of the skeletons in the closet, or if they're gradually working up to it.

That is a horrible thought to be thinking about one's government, and yet these days you'd be an idiot not to. I do not think fiscal skullduggery is the worst thing on their list . . .

It's mind-boggling. Not to get all old-man on you, but I was around for Dick Nixon and Iran-Contra - child's play compared to the past 8.

I read somewhere that Sy Hersh has a list of people who have asked him to call - on Jan. 20 - so they can spill the beans. It's going to be a long haul setting things right again.

It's a very sobering thing to contemplate, especially in contrast to the wellspring of hope that Mr. Obama has drawn out of the populace.

Historically speaking . . . the impression I'm getting (it might be severely filtered, but it's what I'm seeing) is similar to how people talked about the Kennedy 'Camelot' vision? Hope, inspiration and service to the nation. Only with less pillbox hats and pearls, and no one is on the moon again. Hm.
