Wow... this was absolutely amazing. I LOVE your characterization of Ludwig during this time, and of course the historical references made me squee with delight.

And that ending... man. It was perfect.

Excellent story, and very well written! This was awesome! <3

>////< Thank you so, so much!!!! I'm really glad you felt I captured Ludwig's character, as one of my fears was that this didn't dig deep enough into his personality.

THANK YOU!!! ♥♥♥

wow. That was super powerful. I loved the length (because long stories tend to bore me easier) and god. It sure was a great little writing you did. I total don't regret reading it. Nice work. ;3

Thank you! I was afraid it was too short, because I usually write longer fics, so I'm glad you think this length works. Honestly, anymore might've killed this xD

And I'm so glad you liked the fic. Thank you!! ♥

Oh, history. What a big mess. It's interesting to think how things would have been different had the Triple Entente (especially France) been a touch more lenient with Germany immediately after World War I.

I love how you characterized Germany. I think you really caught his mindset perfectly.

I honestly believe that if France was not the "kick someone while they're down" type nation, WW2 might not have even happened... just because if Germany wasn't in such disarray, the Nazi Party would not have come to power, and things would've been smoother. Maybe a war, but not a World War...

Germany is one of those characters who seems too easy in this context. I almost felt like I was doing him wrong because it was obvious. But I'm glad he came out nicely, having you say so (and since I really trust your opinion) really means a lot :D

Thank you~ ♥

I agree. Part of the reason Hitler was able to rise to power was because he preyed upon the image of a victimized Germany. There still would have been conflict had France not taken so much advantage, but it likely would not have escalated into the major World War it was.

My sentiments exactly. But then, I think everything in history happens for a reason, even if it's just that we're meant to learn from it so that we don't do it again.

Or something like that, anyways.

When Ludwig is to muse on this moment 10 years into the future, he’s going to wonder who the person in his skin was, because it certainly wasn’t him. But, on September 1, 1939, in the moment when England and France declared war on Germany, Ludwig’s stomach lurched in anticipation, and the excitement coursing through him was so raw, he fell to the ground laughing.

That line was so...chilling. And strangely accurate to the German people's emotions, I'd think. The entire thing was incredibly well done, especially with such a touchy topic that so many are scared to approach! It was excellent. &hearts

I dunno, I mean, once I heard the prompt "liars" I thought of how Germany basically went against everything the Versailles Treaty told him to do. The idea stuck in my head, and just wouldn't go away.

I would think that after being beaten so epically, this chance for revenge would twist Germany into that being who would laugh in the face of war. In the anime he says something like "I want to rip the hairs out of France's beard one by one." That was the sort of mindset I was aiming for. Chilling is a good word to describe it (it makes me feel successful).

♥ Thank you so much for this review! I'm glad you thought it was "excellent" >////<

Very nice fic - about the German resentment because yes, the treaty of Versailles, the diktat, had been so much unfair, and how Hitler was in a way "the savior".

And about inflation, and poverty, unfortuanately, the 1929 crisis played also a role in aggraving the situation.
Just... France was scared of Germany. Add hate, scorn, fear from the 1870 war + dealing with the countless destruction of WWI + trauma of the war and you have French politics in Versailles.
The problem is the mix France/UK/US policies had ended up with the diktat... France wasn't the only one to make the treaty...

That's true, France wasn't alone. But if you see what sort of treaty the US and UK wanted, it was nothing as extreme as Versailles, because France, as you said, was very scared. France isn't much of a fighter, and sharing a border with Germany must be intimidating.

Thanks for commenting!

Of course it wasn't as harsh. The UK didn't have to repare 4 years of war damages (they suffered too, but not as much as France), and wanted to preserve the "balance of power".

I just wanted to point that Versailles is a mix of the three point of view, so it's everyone fault.
The Uk or the US solutions would have been better - France hated Germany and wanted to get her revange, so of course it would have been better - but in the end, France's revendications ended with Germany's resent and with economical problems *euphemism* and US and UK's one with the Entente having no garanties Germany would respect the treaty.

Hiler rose partly from the first, and got his hands free partly from the second.

If France didn't react after Rhineland's militarisation, it's because she knew the UK wouldn't support her so there was no point of attaking alone. And not only because she was scared of Germany. Between France and the UK, the UK has far more illusions about Nazism than France.

Yup. I found all that in my research, but I wanted to keep this Germany centric, so I found it would mess up the flow to show just the Allies (or just France and UK) speaking. This is Germany's POV, in the third person.

But you're right about it all, of course.
