I think it's weird to every one of us who ever set foot in that house. So I can only imagine what it's gotta be like for you. It's typical to feel that way about the house you grew up in, but so many times, our parents moved once or twice. Your folks stayed in that house, and face it: it wasn't a typical house in a typical neighborhood. The place had a lot of character and with the hills and backyard, it was a lot more than the small house with the manicured lawn and white picket fence.

Cynthia and I loved that house. I think we all did. Even if it was swinging by to pick you up to do something, or hanging out and watching a movie...there was always something exciting about swinging by the place and it's such a part of who you are, I can totally see the sadness :(

At least you have the benfit of driving by every once in a while to see it and see how the new owners are taking care of it. It's a strange feeling knowing you can't go back.

Happened to me when I saw the house I grew up in bull-dozed into a pile of rubble. Now it's an empty lot.

Just re-read my comment - didn't mean to come across as a 'woe is me' type reply.

You can never go back, even when I'd drive by the house on the way to Bell HS or whatever, it was never the same. But you have cool memories. Hell, I think we all have cool memories of your parent's place. And that's the important thing.

oh, I didn't think you were woe-ing. But I did think about your post about your experience while I was writing mine.

Just commiserating with ya.

I can't imagine. I drove past my Grandfather's house today and got all whistful. I can't imagine what I'll feel like when the "old home" is gone.

Loved that house, but mostly for the folks within. And the cool back yard declivity. And the food. But that's portable.
I basically just miss being around for any of these transitions.
