That's exciting.

Although, Trader Joe's has NOTHING on Wegmans. I'm sorry, it's grocery store heaven.

I have read some great reviews of Wegmans, but the fact remains that it is a fairly isolated regional chain, unlike Trader Joe's, so there would have been no reason for me to have spent the past 6 years or so desparately hoping that Maine would get one.

The revelation that we're getting a TJ's, alas, is a fulfillment to a long hoped-for dream :)

If they can have 1 Wegmans in Maryland (with 2 more planned), 7 in Jersey, 12 in Pennsylvania, 4 in Virginia, and 2 planned in Massachusetts, I can only hope that they will make their way to the great state of Maine. The fact that they are planning on opening stores past Albany is huge. Wegmans and the grocery stores in Albany have a contract that they will not infringe on each other's areas.
This of course is not counting the 48 in New York, and the 18 in the Rochester area itself.

I think the wine competition is minimal with a good wine store, but there are a variety of other things, from beer to cheese, where their prices are very competitive.

In many cases, increasing the number of cheap wine options increases the total market of wine drinkers, so I think your wine stores will do well in the long run.

I've been spending a lot of time in MA on business lately and I get stuff @ Trader Joe's for breakfast (i.e. yogurt etc) - it's definitely a cool store and I am pumped for it! Now the location is the question. I bet it will be at the old Wild Oats store...
