At first, I thought it'd be one of those pulp reads that's just a bunch of "oh boy, remember when..." books.... but I started reading. "Evolutionary pornography": upload yourself to some substrate that does not have all the good bits locked away from user control; turn up the intermittency of the clock ticks of your consciousness (or maintain human perceptual speeds but dial up your patience to "granite"); situate yourself somewhere with a good view of your chosen organism; observe as random beneficial mutations spread through the gene pool; blow your load.
