Read a classic that has been translated into your language from its original language. -- Drawing a complete blank with this one, for some reason.

Have you read Crime and Punishment? Wonderful book. You may want to try the Pevear/Volokhonsky translation. I can't remember the translation I read so many years ago, but from what I've seen of Pevear/Volokhonsky, and what I've heard about them, their translation is a good choice.

I have read Crime and Punishment, and I agree that it's an amazing book! Didn't Pevear/Volohonsky also translate War and Peace? Their names seem familiar to me for some reason. Hmm, I guess I could read War and Peace for this category! But that is one giant book...not sure I'm ready to attempt it just yet.

Yes, on Pevear/Volohonsky. I'm currently reading that translation of W&P. :-)

I had trouble with #9 too. I ended up going with Ancient Greece (The Odyssey.) :-)

Hmm, I like that angle for #9. Apparently I need to think outside the box!

20th century classic: If "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" could be considered a classic, I highly recommend this.

Classic play: I was actually pleasantly surprised by "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". Don't know if that would count as a classic though. Perhaps a Shakespeare? I don't care much for him in general, but rather enjoyed "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Twelfth Night".

Classic horror: "Dracula" should definitely count here, if you haven't read it yet. It's brilliant :)

Classic Romance: "The Blue Castle" by L.M. Montgomery. Possibly my favourite LMM. Oh! Or "The Rosary" by Florence L. Barclay - beautiful, gorgeous novel. And so romantic :) Or both :D

No suggestions for the rest, sorry. I'm always in doubt as to what exactly constitutes a classic. I mean, could "Chronicles of Narnia" or "LotR" count for that last one?

I loved Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day! One of my all-time favorite comfort reads. Same goes for The Blue Castle, actually! :)

Much Ado and Twelfth Night are actually my two favorite Shakespeare plays! I've read a lot of Shakespeare, and while he is amazing, I'd like to branch out a bit for this challenge. I have read Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, but it was a long time ago...maybe I'll try something else by Tennessee Williams.

Just read Dracula, which I thought was very interesting. I'm leaning more towards a classic mystery, though, since horror isn't really a genre I enjoy.

Thanks for the rec for The Rosary; never heard of it, but I'll check it out!

Thanks for joining in! I haven't any suggestions, as I haven't really thought it out myself yet (beyond creating categories!) I am enjoying how some people are already "thinking outside the box" as you put it. But I think I should write a post on "what counts as a classic" or something like that as I am seeing multiple questions regarding that subject.

I would definitely appreciate a "what is a classic" post! As you can see, I'm a bit befuddled by some of the categories. :)
