I'm just curious - what company did this man you met work for? What was it he was passionate about, what did he spend sixteen hours a day creating?
Someday the company will cease to exist. Or he will be made to leave. Or he will retire. Or he will die. Where then does that leave him? Where does it leave the hours, and input and passion that was invested into his work and life? What harvest does he reap?
It leaves him with the satisfaction of knowing that he's made a difference. it leaves him with a legacy that other people can build on. It leaves him with a rich harvest of people who respect him and his accomplishments, and who will remember him well long after he's gone.
Why belittle these things?
If a man finds something he's passionate about - if he follows his bliss and throws himself into the joy of living up to his abilities and making a difference in the world - would you instead show him your sadness, ask him to give all this up, try to convince him that he should have different goals in life?
Well, first of all Im not asking anyone that they give up their job. Its a good thing for a man to work (and like I already wrote, its a good thing for a man to serve his boss well). All Im saying is that in the big picture all the stuff your talking about.. making a difference, legacy, respect, accomplishments are all great BUT kind of irrelevant if at the end of it all your burning in Hell. People in hell are too busy burning to reflect on lifes "accomplishments".
Aren't we taught in kindergarten that jealousy is a bad thing?
If someone says he loves you more than anything else, but then he's willing to put you through Hell because you dared have passion, excitement, and loyalty for other interests outside him, then could you really say that his love is healthy?
I'm still curious what company this person worked for, by the way, to have made such an impression on you. When/where did you meet him? (The photo of the person with the "brick" phone is great, btw. :)
First off, I appreciate your engagement with me on this issue. Sometimes people dont agree with each other and thats okay as long as people stay open minded and easy going which so far we both have been
