I agree with what you say, and I would also caution on how we treat those who do say that Christ is coming soon. Even those who set dates. No one knows when His return will be, even those who don't set dates. So logically speaking, They could be right in their date setting. At least until the day after their date. Then as Christians we should show pity and understanding love to our sincere brothers and sisters. The key is to be ready ourselves daily, in expectation of Christ return. If we are ready than it doen't matter when.
