A little something Christian to read

Nov 30, 2007 11:58

Pope Benedict released his second encyclical today. It's called Spe Salvi (Saved by Hope), based on the words of Saint Paul "in hope we were saved" (Rome 8:24). The introduction is as follows:

1. “SPE SALVI facti sumus”-in hope we were saved, says Saint Paul to the Romans, and likewise to us (Rom 8:24). According to the Christian faith, “ ( Read more... )

Y'know, as a Protestant, I'm really liking this Pope Benedict.:-) He's definitely not afraid to speak his mind.

I think if anything that's what I like about him the most. He believes that Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and he believes in proclaiming that. And he knows it's important to be able to discuss our differences intelligently and in a Christ-like manner. So yeah, I'm a fan =)

I was SOO glad the Holy Spirit led the conclave to elect him.

Yeah, it's been weird for me. After growing up so devotedly Catholic, I strayed from Christ in a huge way for about 10 years, and my conversion back to the Church was directly linked to the death of JPII. So when Benedict was elected, I knew nothing about him, but he's really had a direct effect on my conversion and the path I've taken since coming back to the Church. It's funny, I loved JPII so much, and now it's like I've got one Pope leading me to Christ with his prayers in heaven, and another leading me to Christ with his leadership on earth.

The phrase "starting to become" implies potential but not-yet-accomplished displacement of someone else who already holds the position. :P

it could also imply that i never had a favourite in the first place, so all the mods are technically still in the running for the number #1 spot ;)

I of course do not have time to read the entire thing right now, but after skimming it, I am really disappointed (but, as you said, it is not unexpected) at how the Washington Post reported this.

Point of this beautiful encyclical aside, why on earth would the Pope support Atheism? He's Catholic, and as such he is called to hate sin, and Atheism is sinful because it denies God. Um, DUH. Stupid media.

I find it interesting that the Pope gets so much criticism, and yet he's always the first voice people want to hear when a controversial topic arises. Seriously, nothing the Pope ever says is anything new. The Catholic Church pretty much hasn't changed its position for the past 2000 years. Why the heck are they so offended now?

Anyway, people are dumb. I <3 Papa Ratzi :o)

Seriously. Whenever the Pope says something there's always a huge media outcry. "THE POPE IS CATHOLIC; PUBLIC SHOCKED."
