A little something Christian to read

Pope Benedict released his second encyclical today. It's called Spe Salvi (Saved by Hope), based on the words of Saint Paul "in hope we were saved" (Rome 8:24). The introduction is as follows:

1. “SPE SALVI facti sumus”-in hope we were saved, says Saint Paul to the Romans, and likewise to us (Rom 8:24). According to the Christian faith, “ ( Read more... )

Point of this beautiful encyclical aside, why on earth would the Pope support Atheism? He's Catholic, and as such he is called to hate sin, and Atheism is sinful because it denies God. Um, DUH. Stupid media.

I find it interesting that the Pope gets so much criticism, and yet he's always the first voice people want to hear when a controversial topic arises. Seriously, nothing the Pope ever says is anything new. The Catholic Church pretty much hasn't changed its position for the past 2000 years. Why the heck are they so offended now?

Anyway, people are dumb. I <3 Papa Ratzi :o)

Seriously. Whenever the Pope says something there's always a huge media outcry. "THE POPE IS CATHOLIC; PUBLIC SHOCKED."

It's become one of his nicknames, like "Papa Bene" and "Our German Shepard".

Fun stuff. See, if he lived here in Jersey his nickname would be "Joey Rats." :)

No one would expect him to support it but I see no point in doing historical revisionism to further catholic agenda.

He's the shepherd of the Catholic Church teaching Catholic things to Catholics. That's his job.

Historical revisionism is his job?
It only discredits him.

Boldly proclaiming Catholic teaching is his job. Find an official Vatican document that within context blatantly exhibits historical revisionism where obvious historical facts have been ignored, then we can talk.

Ignoring that Stalinism and Marxism are not the same things and pegging atheism as a cause of genocide is blatantly revisionist.

Other Popes where rather good at this as well.

Speaking of genocide...
..and did he not say just a few months ago that south American indigenous people benefited from the arrival of Christianity and the Spaniards?

Sorry but I miss JP II and I would hope they would have elected a more progressive visionary, not a regressive revisionist.

John Paul the Great was an amazing Pope. He was also an accomplished thespian and possessed an extraordinary charisma that captured the hearts of many people, not just Catholics. He is largely responsible for the Catholic revival of my generation as he was the Pope of the youth ( ... )

I agree with what you are saying and I do know how he is elected. What I mean is that there were other more progressive Cardinals in the pool ( ... )
