Do you mind me asking why you're running this particular survey?

Nah. It's for no fucking weird ulterior motive. I was just talking to someone and they didn't even know who their parents fucking were, which then led me to think about me and my daughter and I... I guess I wanted to know that some people out there actually have semi-decent dads and stuff. But I wasn't going to ask you all to spill your bloody guts, I just wanted something normal, y'know?

Fair enough.

[Private]

My father was an engineer, first with the JASDF and then with the RAF when we moved to England. I never saw much of him during the week, but no matter how busy he was, on Sundays he would always put the day aside to teach me about the work he'd been doing. Sometimes we would work on tech projects together.

...

I know it's not strictly normal to build robots and model aeroplanes based on classified blueprints, but it was normal for us.

...Not strictly fucking normal, no, but everyone's got their own definitions. I'm sure some of my life ain't normal for people around here.

Did you build any really cool shit? Did you keep anything you made?

My father taught me to take care of our garden. We would spend several hours each day there, when I was young.

Thanks a lot. Honestly. although, if the only person who has an answer is a Vulcan, that's just worrying.

Do you still do that kind of thing? Yeah, I know, it hardly works here, but point stands.

You're welcome.

No, he died when I was young. But he taught me much, in our time together.

Ah, I'm really fucking sorry about that.

But he was a decent bloke, yeah? Sounds like it.

Whenever we were in port when I was a child my father would let me sit on his knee while he played cards with my uncles, and he never left my side when I was ill.

Now he sounds like a decent bloody bloke if there ever was one. Did he teach you to play and stuff as well, or what?

So you were at sea with him, then?

I kind of learned from watching. He taught me a lot of other things, though.

And yeah, most of the time. His Cabin Boy became kind of my unofficial bodyguard, and he followed me ever since. ...Kinda miss having him around, honestly.

Yeah, you tend to pick stuff up that way. Pretty sure I did.

That's kinda fucking awesome, actually. Shame he's not about, but it's pretty awesome. He was a pirate and all that, too?

Yeah, yeah, my childhood was shit, but daddy issues are a dime a dozen whether you're an inmate or a warden.

I did mostly raise a little girl, though. She's twelve right now. Tallahassee taught her how to shoot a gun -- it's not only useful for her to learn, but she really enjoyed the bonding time, I think.

Trust me, I fucking know. Inmates are more likely to punch you for asking, though.

...funny, I taught mine to do that. Not that she really wanted to know after a bit, but point stands. What's her name?

wichita_kansas February 19 2010, 17:53:50 UTC
Why didn't she want to know after a bit?

Her name's Little Rock, she's my sister.

christ_onabike February 19 2010, 18:13:56 UTC
Cause she didn't want in on my life. Can't fucking blame her, you know.

Ah, well, good for you. Gotta look after your family.

Who is your warden now?

Nah, man, you were an angel before that.

Uhura.

Was I a good warden? Is she a suitable replacement?

Yeah, you were alright. For a warden. Better bloody inmate, though.
