After the accident, Light had withdrawn almost completely. Entire days were spent with the fully curtains drawn, blocking out a world that had overnight become impossibly his, and not his. At the age of twenty three, Kira commanded the world; Kira's ideology was becoming law. The future couldn't possibly be any brighter than it was at this point in his life, for all of his pure ambitions and aspirations at seventeen were being actualized. Had he not in fact been living his entire life to create that perfect, beautiful moment for the happiness of all the kind-hearted people who would no longer need to live in fear? With that now all but in the palms of his hands, what use did he realistically have for a face? Kira was god; gods were absolute-- God had no use for a physical appearance.Light had repeated this thought to himself over and over again, trying to indoctrinate himself with this logical reasoning. but every time he caught sight of himself in something whether it be the mirrors, the glass of the window panes, or even the ( ... )

Despite his parents' insistence that he move back with them until he had readjusted, Light had stubbornly refused. Even without his new found dedication to the scouring of evil, he didn't want to be surrounded by the memories of what his life had been like prior to this. He didn't want to be reminded of all the bright optimism that had blossomed in his room, all the subtle reminders of life when it had seemed so perfect and full of promise, because he was whole.

Criminals were dying, but it would never be enough. Crime would never be completely eradicated, the re-shaping of humanity would be slow and at times tortuous. But this is still infinitely preferable to thinking about the analogous truth: Light could try his best to be the person he was, but he would never be the same again.

This was, of course, the exact reason Misa--that damn fool of a woman he should have killed years ago--made Light feel so indescribably angry. Acting the same way she always did, as though nothing had changed, Light found himself constantly on the ( ... )

Misa wasn't at all surprised by the silence that followed her greeting. It was the same every day. Light didn't talk to her anymore, and if she were to be honest she was glad that he didn't. She had no idea what to say to him --- neither could she stand seeing his grotesque face. Her hand shook a bit as she closed the door behind her. Her thoughts screaming at her, "I don't want to be here!" She wanted to return to the sparkly perfect world ( ... )

While Light was in the hospital recovering, many fans had sent bundles and bundles of letters to show her their sympathies. They said that they hoped that in this dire time their love will only grow stronger. Misa read each and every letter. Of course, she wasn't the one who responded but she read them. She was glad that she wasn't responding because she wouldn't really know what to say. Though it was easy enough to lie.

Of course! Misa and Light's love will grow stronger!

Misa's love for Light is pure! Misa didn't love Light for stupid reasons.

Misa will support Light to her last breath! These were the kind of words that she wrote and said all too easily before the accident. It was all true after all. At that time. Now, she wasn't so sure about that. Even at that moment, when asked that question she still responded with the same enthusiasm. Yet, at the back of her mind --- she knew that it was difficult to even look at Light anymore ( ... )
