Giles was exhausted. Still another night of searching for that girl who ran off, and still another night of it being a fruitless search. If he didn't know any better, he would think that the girl had some sort of supernatural cloaking ability on her that kept them from finding her. It would certainly explain a few things. She was still in New Orleans, as far as he knew of, but finding her here seemed to be a huge problem. It was a problem that was starting to drive him a little crazy, though.
That's why he was in here, though. He needed to be up during the day to get some of the more mundane things of his life done. He needed to pick up some food for him and Faith, so that they wouldn't have to eat greasy fast food every night. He needed to meet with a few contacts that he had in New Orleans as well. All sorts of things needed to be done, and not all of them could be done during the middle of the night.
He needed caffinne, though. If he was going to avoid driving the rented car that he was driving into some brick wall, or into some person, he was going to need to stay awake. New Orleans was full of these little coffee shops, so he picked one at random and walked inside.
Of course he'd pick the one that Buffy Summers was in at the moment.
He spotted her from behind. She seemed to be in line for some coffee herself. Sure, he could have mistaken her for another tiny, blond girl, but he knew his former Slayer from all angles.
"Buffy?" It slipped out before he could have controlled it. What he should have done was turn around and left as soon as he realized it was her.
But he was stupid, stupid man sometimes.
