One of the mild downsides, as far as my budget is concerned, of listening to Steve West's "Resurrection Sunday" program on 91X is that I get inspired to buy music. So I limit myself to less than five songs, preferably less than or equal to 3 songs--a month. They have to stay on a list I keep for before I shop, too, and if they've made enough of an ( Read more... )

I most often listen to my political track, which I wrote about a month or two ago, I think. Currently I'm particularly likely to want to hear "Free Will" or "Won't Get Fooled Again."

I like your political playlist a lot. About a week ago now(?) I heard you playing it while I was settling down to sleep. I like "Free Will," and "Won't Get Fooled Again," (which I remember fondly from late childhood), and I really like Steppenwolf's "Monster."

"Monster" is a great revisionist history of the United States. Some parts of its present-day track are obsolete, some are still applicable, and some have become applicable again: Now we are fighting a war over there/No matter who's the winner we can't pay the cost.

I quite like "Society' Child," too. When I listened to it as a kid I didn't get how bitter the ending was.

Now I've got "We Live As We Dream Alone" going through my head! I'm going to have to get some Gang of Four in a format other than cassette tape or vinyl. Songs of the Free was one of my very favorite albums back in the day.

That Ella collection sounds spiffy!!!!

My question for the day is "What are you listening to currently?"

I'm not sure how well this will work (I've never tried it before), but this should be a link to my favorite Pandora station: http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh302159092575511975

I based it on the pop song "Beware of the Boys" by Panjabi MC and it's supposed to play fun Indian pop music, and it mostly does, including Bollywood music; it also plays a lot of world beat and technopop. Every now and then I have to sit on it (by clicking "don't like" or shifting songs to another station) or it will drift into gloomy electronica territory, which is not what I want!

edited for HTML improvement

I clicked on the Pandora link, and after it took me to my Pandora station (based on Pearl Jam), it started to play "Beware of the Boys" by Punjabi MC. I decided to base a new station on that song and clicked that option. Pandora then went to a different song by Punjabi MC which I liked as well. I like technopop and some world beat, so this station will give me a break from Pearl Jam/Led Zeppelin related stuff.

I'm going to look for Songs of the Free now. I hope it has "I Love a Man in a Uniform" on it, but I can always buy that as a single, after all. Do you remember your joke to me once about "I Love a Mac in Cuneiform"?

The Ella collection is wonderful!
