One of the mild downsides, as far as my budget is concerned, of listening to Steve West's "Resurrection Sunday" program on 91X is that I get inspired to buy music. So I limit myself to less than five songs, preferably less than or equal to 3 songs--a month. They have to stay on a list I keep for before I shop, too, and if they've made enough of an impression that I can recall part of them by looking at the title, they're in the running to be bought. Also, if I have bought another song by that artist recently, I won't buy another one by them for a while.
I bought four songs recently, one more comedy album, and from Starbucks, an impulse purchase, a cd collection of songs by Ella Fitzgerald. I really shot my budget this month! The songs are Scritti Politti's "Absolute," Gang of Four's "We Live As We Dream Alone," "Lucretia My Reflection," by Sisters of Mercy, and "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. The comedy album is Bill Cosby's Why Is There Air? from 1965.
The Ella Fitzgerald purchase, Ella--Let's Fall in Love is part of my plan to listen to more jazz. There are fifteen songs in the collection, but I will only mention a few; "Lullaby of Birdland," which I'll get to compare to Sarah Vaughan's recording, "They Can't Take That Away From Me" (with Louis Armstrong), "Miss Otis Regrets (She's Unable to Lunch Today)," written by Cole Porter, and "Let's Do It (Let's Fall in Love)." It came out through Universal Music Enterprises, on their Hear Music Opus label. I haven't listened to this yet but I plan to soon. I have listened to a few of the songs now, and Ms. Fitzgerald was an amazing singer. Her tone is so pure, and she can improvise, too.
One of the reasons why I go into Starbucks on occasion is because I like to look over their music offerings. (The other is, now, for Tazo teas. I really can't tolerate Starbucks' coffee and my coffee tastebuds are nearly burn't out anyway. Time for a tea break.)
My question for the day is "What are you listening to currently?"
edited to add some information and to add an impression.
