Cold weather for San Diego

Feb 25, 2011 05:49

hasn't it been? The highs have been in the very low 60's, (about 15.5 C). Right now it's officially 50 F (10 C), which is kind of warm for 4:30 in the morning. It must be the cloud cover that's keeping it relatively warm. The prediction is for rain today, tomorrow, and Sunday, with continued cold ( Read more... )

In my experience, virtually everybody in a 12 step programme here who has good recovery today, at some point in their life prioritised it and spent a good deal of their time on it. This could have been in the form of at least one of the following: 30 days of inpatient rehab, with or without subsequent secondary care, 90 meetings in 90 days, taking a part time job enabling focus on their programme etc. One of the weaknesses of OA here in my opinion is that very few people make recovery a priority. Members (and I did this too for a long time) want to make recovery a hobby, whilst carrying on with their normal lives. Little wonder then that so few get abstinent and stay abstinent. I had to drop out of my full time course, do 90 in 90 (not all were OA because there are only 4 OA meetings a week here), do an outpatient programme (I wanted to do inpatient but I wasn't bulimic, obese or dangerous anorexic so the rehabs wouldn't have me ;-), and then switch to an easy academic programme so I could do lots of step work, meetings etc ( ... )

I have seen that devotion to Twelve-Stepping pay off for many. I wish I could go to more meetings, but I don't have a car, and travel is especially time-consuming by bus here in S. California. I try to go to three meetings a week, currently. I listen to speakers on my iPod, and read program literature, which helps.

Apparently I have difficulty accepting that I really am as sick as someone with cancer. That insight is not only spurred by what you said, but from my step study work as well.

This has been a rough winter for me between algebra and my step study. I hope there is a bridge to sanity. I've been trying to cross the gorge of life on a thin rope of self-will, which is fraying badly.

Hugs back to you! Thank you for standing on the shore with your hand outstretched!

If you want to do more meetings there should be people willing to give lifts. It's not nice to ask, I know, but it's good service for the person doing it. I gave a lift to an NA friend once a week until she got a boyfriend who took over ;-) It ensured that I went to that meeting every week.

Have a great day! One meal at a time.

I'll miss ya at ConDor -- but completely understand. I've had to make a lot of sacrifices as far as what I'd like to have done, for what I've needed to do to take the best care of myself (sometimes because I needed to work, or even rest given my hectic schedule).

BTW...Laughter is great medicine.

Very recently, I bought a digital copy of Monty Python's Matching Tie and Handkerchief, which I have been listening to while riding the bus. That album has certainly lightened my days! Eddie Izzard has been good for a laugh, too. I intend to look for some Bill Cosby, next, for my iPod.
