It occured to me that there would be virtually no way to lift that advent beastie. It would have to be put on a kiln shelf before it was dry or it would just come to bits in my hands. And who ever uses it (if anyone) would have to treat it so gingerly that it would not be a joy, but a perpetual burden ( Read more... )

Spider is in his eighth year, he's well-stablished here. If you look more closely at the 'couch', you'll see that he's on my lap. Otherwise he would probably have disappeared when the party poppers went off and definitely when he had the decorations added.

Well, of course you aren't a couch! ;o) I should find a picture of my Friday who is just slightly older so you can see how close the picture resembles. Friday spent all of our Christmas dinner licking a friend of the family's head while he was sitting on the couch. I wanted to scrub her tongue off. (That was probably tmi though.)

No no, no beating! It's all good, just different, yours are cool too.

It's white stoneware, so I'll fire it to 1000 C, glaze it, and fire it again to 1300 C or so. I probably should have used terra cotta for an earthier look, but this will be stronger. I might go for something like the yellow/brown ones at the back/top of this image:

Nope, never seen a flame thrower. Nonetheless, the pots are cool! I really love your work. I can just picture myself sipping my tea from one of your mugs... mmmmm....
