I don't need to tell you how much I love this fic (just see what it made me do!). And it's the first time I've ever succeeded in translating the things I love about the fic into art. One frustration I usually have in writer-artist collaboration is that what awes me is not those concrete things (like happenings) that can be somehow represented in art. Usually specific scenes in the story are more convenient to illustrate. This time I tried to draw about abstract ideas, the kind of relationship Sam and Ruby developed in this story, and I hope my interpretation isn't too off the mark.
This is also the most concious effort I've ever made. My intentions are colored white in the next paragraph, because I'd love to hear what you get out of the fic so ....maybe don't look at what I have to say before reading the fic?
Things are arranged along a linear timeline. The leftmost is the starting point and the rightmost is the end. The big monster is supposed to be a very powerful demonic presence like Azazel, or himself if you please. The panther coming from below with arms represents Meg. I intended it to be graceful and fierce at the same time?) One thing I tried hard to express was two motions: Sam's rising to the throne of the king and Ruby's falling for him. Also the idea of "the demon blood is purifying Sam," so he's growing wings and sending off light which burn the shackles of his human limitation and free him.
I tried to draw more after finishing this one. But I couldn't make another one consistent in style so I gave up. I'm difficult like that...but the fic has so many great scenes and spot-on characterizations of Sam and Ruby, you can't miss them.
