I'm about to get slightly nerdy.

Poll Oh English, my EnglishI don't really think that was the best way to word that question, but hopefully you get my point.

I got a review that went something like "Though there's one little error that everyone makes, but it kinda irks me. There were a few times that you typed Roxas's when it's supposed to be Roxas'. It's no biggy, I've seen ( Read more... )

Roxas's" or "Roxas'

I think both are correct. As long as you're consistent, you can use either one. I'm pretty sure I read this in a textbook recently, but the book's not with me at the moment.

I'm pretty sure its Roxas' since the way I was always taught that if something already had an 's' at the end you don't need to do "s's" as it would make it look weird or some shit.....*shrugs* I don't remember the exact reasoning behind it, but I do remember that is what I was taught.

I agree with valerie_z; I think you can use both. I usually use Roxas', because the extra 's' looks extraneous to me, but I don't think there's anything outright wrong about it. I think it's a stylistic choice, more than anything.

I was always taught that you can't use double S's like that.

Though I am partial to Roxass, Roxai and Axel's.

For the second, I just love that grammer thing where you add AI. Like Platypi, Octopi, etc.

So do I! Though I live here in a desert with cacti and I still insist on calling them "cactuses." Because clearly, I am consistent. Clearly!

I voted Roxas's, mostly because I heard that it was recently decided that the s' usage (as in Roxas') was wrong, and that it should be s's (as in Roxas's). I thin it was MLA that decided this, or some such group. Anyway, just thought I'd weigh in.

And it's all a moot point anyway, since we all know that it's really Axel's.

Hmm, I'll have to look this up. I think it's more of a stylistic choice than anything, and you as long as you're consistent you can't go wrong either way. It's English, so I mean, people are going to abuse it anyway, so why fight it, I say. ^^

And obviously! I'm glad someone agrees. xD
