I'm feeling so inadequate lately. I've done my best not to look at too many personal statement samples because I don't want to unintentionally or intentionally start writing down what I see because of lack of creativity or experience. It's hard to trying to be my own cheerleader, to push myself. I just feel at a loss because it doesn't feel as ( Read more... )

As I've been reading nothing but freshmen papers lately, trust me when I say that you write well and don't need to go back to basic comp. A statement of purpose is a category of its own. It has to sound academic yet reflect your personal history. Finding that balance is difficult yet very obvious when you do. I think you're approaching that in your paper.

I forgot to mention that in the google doc I saved with edits, the green highlighted areas are things that I've changed. The yellow highlights are things I think you should look at again.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm trying to keep my spirits up and seeing as how you already went through the process, I'm very appreciative of the words. Every time I think I'm done, something else pops up. When does it end?

I know that it will only get worse should I actually get accepted. =\

lol I've long accepted that whatever I write up will always need improvement. I've only learned this recently by editing a multitude of people's work, freshmen included, that the process of editing happens in stages. So I've come to expect my papers would continually be given back to me for tightening and further improvement.

But in the end, there's only so much editing should be done with a particular document before sending it off. Which I'm sure you're feeling awful ready right now.
