You know, when I don't have an internet connection, these thoughts stay in my head. Or I don't have them at all. Heh. ANYWAY.

If I'm interpreting Barry Schwartz correctly (see his TED talk here), we all need a fishbowl, a sense of limitations against which to strain and which alleviate us from unnecessary decision making. Is that not one of the ( Read more... )

two thoughts:

1 - you are way too smart and articulate (or maybe i'm too tired, it just seems very philosophical for salad dressing...)
2 - my guests all know to eat what i serve them at their own risk!

i think the bigger question is when doe the "simple" decisions start to feel that the risk is too high to actually make one ....

i know and yes i hate to admit it that i get paralyzed by indecision about things that shouldnt matter so much ....

take buying a car for example... and wish me luck cause i go see one i should potentially buy tomorrow

ah, but that's what i mean about doing it for me ... If I'm ina crappy mood, it will NOT make me feel better to act against my values. I honestly feel even worse if I tell someone to fuck off because I'm angry, than if I treat someone well - tell them that I feel angry right now, soo I'm going to walk away from the conversation. Treating someone well doesn't mean treating myself poorly!!

I am not sure if you're talking in general, or about me in specific! I agree in general that one should always talk about one's feelings rather than pretending all is well. I suck badly at pretending all is well, so regardless of whether I believe in it specifically or not, alas, I always communicate my displeasure. And I guess when I have a choice, yes, I would rather communicate than not communicate my displeasure ( ... )
